Why is MGS2 the only game to do subversion right?

And it isn't just him.

Look at Miyazaki and Dark Souls. Lots if factors went into what made it popular and there are many qualities in it that lead people to like them.
But what happened with people that saw it? They solely saw hard game. So they make a game with just one idea, make the game hard. And when the game is shit they are left scratching their heads how people could dislike a game made with the intention of being a pain to beat with no thought or effort put into anything else.

The examples are endless. Open world is yet another thing you can add there.

This, MGS2 has soul
It's doesn't try paint it's story as super serious oscar bait, the game has comedy segments and there is a lot of attention put into the details of the tanker and the big she'll that makes player more immersed in the word, in a sense the gameplay contributes with the story instead of being separate things.

Honestly, all ND had to do to land the subversion was to make a nuanced point without ill-will towards the player but it’s pretty clear that they don’t respect their audience and that venom can’t help but leak out of every orifice of TLOU2.

Kojimas intent was to at least pass on an idea about memes and help people approach their lives in a more thoughtful way. Druckmann just seems to have it out for average game buying consumers for some reason

I just finished playing 2 for the first time a couple weeks ago. Honestly? Not bad. I'd give it a 7/10. I've yet to play the original though I did play Twin Snakes and thoroughly enjoyed it. I just started Snake Eater, so that'll take up some time until this bullshit quarantine is over.

the only bad thing about the game (about any metal gear name really) was the last phonecalls, saying the patriots were dead lead us to the bullshit that was mgs4
