It's called diving

The diving sections were cool, at least for me, I enjoyed the flooded tanker segment.

1. It's acceptable that Liquid/Ocelot win a round over Snake at the start of the game.
2. Switching to Raiden only raises Snake higher on a pedestal

I still hate the fact that they ditched the pliskin character once snake returns

Because you were a child when it came out.

Kojima is (generally) a good writer who had smart points to make in MGS2. And he had Tomokazu Fukushima at his side who contributed some great work that meshed excellently with Kojima's vision.

Nojima and Nomura are total hacks with shonenbrain, and Druckmann writes moviegame Naughty Dog tripe so he's inherently invalidated.

People were hating on mgs2 for ages at the time

It’s only until recently that it’s had a revaluation and people love it

>nojima and nomura are total hacks with shonenbrain
Explain?

that's submersion you fool

People despised the character change and still do. Subversion is definitely memorable because it stirs up so much shit but it added nothing to the series.

Water

Go ask super bunnyhop.

Snake killed him and took his clothes to sneak into big shell.

You were supposed to be able to find pliskins body stuffed into a cardboard box but it was cut.

MGS2 didn't do anything right, it's pure dog shit. Always has, always will be.

I only forgave it because the gameplay is fun. I came to like Raiden over the years though.

>30min of cutscenes and story flipping to explain what the fuck you just played at the end

no

Kojima is one of those people that get copied because they see his success or something good he did and copy it at a surface level.

MGS games are good games that people enjoyed for a variety of reasons. But people trying to replicate it just see one aspect, the cinematic aspect, and then make entire games centered around that. They don't include the attention to detail or TECHNOLOGY, end game scoring for replaying with different styles, the music, the Shinkawa art design, boss fights etc that all also were major contributors to what made MGS popular. They only see movie game so they make a game with just movies.
Or Drunkman saw ruse cruise so he makes subverted expectations and only subversion none of the other factors that went into MGS2's character change.

This happens all the time.

This desu

Kojima unironically still filters plebs. The whole industry adopted a cinematic mindset thanks to him, and are still chasing his coattails because they forgot they still had to make a game as well. Naughty Dog was never going to last long with that money burning mindset

you should've been able to control snake at least against fortune in the end

bioshock did it better

And it isn't just him.

Look at Miyazaki and Dark Souls. Lots if factors went into what made it popular and there are many qualities in it that lead people to like them.
But what happened with people that saw it? They solely saw hard game. So they make a game with just one idea, make the game hard. And when the game is shit they are left scratching their heads how people could dislike a game made with the intention of being a pain to beat with no thought or effort put into anything else.

The examples are endless. Open world is yet another thing you can add there.

This, MGS2 has soul
It's doesn't try paint it's story as super serious oscar bait, the game has comedy segments and there is a lot of attention put into the details of the tanker and the big she'll that makes player more immersed in the word, in a sense the gameplay contributes with the story instead of being separate things.

Honestly, all ND had to do to land the subversion was to make a nuanced point without ill-will towards the player but it’s pretty clear that they don’t respect their audience and that venom can’t help but leak out of every orifice of TLOU2.

Kojimas intent was to at least pass on an idea about memes and help people approach their lives in a more thoughtful way. Druckmann just seems to have it out for average game buying consumers for some reason

I just finished playing 2 for the first time a couple weeks ago. Honestly? Not bad. I'd give it a 7/10. I've yet to play the original though I did play Twin Snakes and thoroughly enjoyed it. I just started Snake Eater, so that'll take up some time until this bullshit quarantine is over.

the only bad thing about the game (about any metal gear name really) was the last phonecalls, saying the patriots were dead lead us to the bullshit that was mgs4
