objectively thief > thief 2

/Micdrop.

Deus Ex > all

Thief 1> Thief 2 > Dark Mod > shit > Thief 3

I tried to replay DS with the sneaky mod on, but it felt terrible

nah, The Dark Mod is just a Doom 3 mod, and it shows, the AI and the sound system clearly aren't good for a stealth game.
Also Thief 2 suffers from a really flat placing, you won't even remember half of the levels after your first playthrough due to how samey they are.
TG > TDP > TMA = TDS > TDM

tell me the best player-made stuff for thief 1 or 2

I just played Thief for the first time over last week and fell for it pretty hard.

Endless Rain

I haven't played Thief 2 yet but I'm pretty sure Thief Gold is better for the simple reason it has spooky zombie/haunt tomb levels which I heard Thief 2 done away with

>I haven't played Thief 2 yet

>mfw the first time playing shipping and receiving
get to it

>try to play T1
>stupid zombies everywhere that are just annoying path blockers that don't pose any real threat
>you can run past all the enemies without a problem
>awful, awful animations
>lowest poly models I've ever seen in a 3D game, somehow on the same level as RE1 which came out 4 years earlier
>AI is completely unpredictable
>Game is balanced around quicksaving due to this

People enjoy this?

>Game is balanced around quicksaving due to this
this is the unfortunate truth of most stealth games like thief, everyone is fine with it apparently. I wish future games could have better mechanics to do away with this

Thief 2 is really the best stealth game. Thief 1 is still excellent is I'd recommend it wholeheartedly, but it's obvious the devs were not yet sure what they were going for. A third of the missions are the type of dungeon crawling you'd expect from a very different game, and the controls don't match the level design at all. Thief 2 is pure sneakan', blackjackan', meme arrowan' all the way to the literal bank.
Thief: 9/10
Thief 2: 10/10
Dark Mod: 8/10
Thief 3: 7/10 with sneak upgrade (no console peasant limitations).

Imo the rewind system in racing games is great in a game where a single fuckup can lead to death. MGSV's reaction system is pretty great also, but the game should've penalized its use a little more

>>AI is completely unpredictable
What the fuck are you talking about?

>Sneaking towards AI from behind
>"I SEE YOU THERE" / "DID I HEAR SOMETHING?" for no apparent reason
>doesn't physically react outside of bark at all

they have this in invisible inc. it's turn based, so it takes you back to the start of the previous turn. it's extremely good.
another important thing it has is none of this 420 ghost undetected cheevo type gameplay - time is a huge factor, you have to weigh up when it's right to move a little faster but make more noise vs taking it slow and sneaking more. you generally do not sit there hidden, waiting for hours for this patrol to go back and forth 20 times while you contemplate the best way to be as 100% stealthy sneakan undetected as possible. obviously it needs to be bad to get detected in a stealth game, but if it basically means game over then that's shit

>but it's obvious the devs were not yet sure what they were going for.
It was supposed to be some action game at first.

Will another Thief game ever be attempted after the fuck up that was Thief 4?

This only happens either with noisy (marble/metal/gravel) surfaces or if the enemy was previously alerted and his awareness level is higher than normal.
>"I SEE YOU THERE" / "DID I HEAR SOMETHING?" for no apparent reason
>doesn't physically react outside of bark at all
The first one of those will always prompt some sort of reaction. The second one makes sense because the character isn't even sure if it heard something.

>Filtered by zombies

>Will another Thief game ever be attempted
Nope

hopefully not, because endless sequels are gay bullshit and you should stop. more games that are similar to thief would be nice though

2>DS>1
Level design in DS is just way too good. 1 is clunky as fuck and full of unfun undead levels.

It was first supposed to be an RPG based on dark retelling of Arthurian mythos (Arthur, Merlin, and the knights are evil overlords, and you're a good guy Mordred trying to fix shit). Then they realized that their best levels were the ones where you had to sneak into castles, so they decided to make the whole game about sneaking. But then they got afraid audience wouldn't like constant stealth so they added a bunch of missions with monsters, fighting, and platforming.

Thief 2>Thief>>>>>the rest.

Just finished Thief: Gold, the second part of the game is pure garbage, at least gameplay-wise.
FUCK apparitions
FUCK haunts
FUCK bug beasts

Attached: fuck off.jpg (1920x1080, 457.61K)

>be non-lethal good boy
>faggot rat monkey guards start appearing
>sword comes out

what's up with brainlets seeing any enemy that isn't a guard and suddenly assuming that stealth isn't an option anymore?

Apparitions are extremely easy to stunlock with your sword
Unaware haunts die in one hit from a charged slash
Undead in general are extremely vulnerable to flash bombs
Bug beasts can be knocked out just as easily as human guards
All weapons have a 5x damage stealth bonus to unaware enemies, except against undead.

Escape is an extremely bright level where trying to be stealthy is just tedious.

whats the Thief 3 sneaky upgrade?
Ive been thinking about playing it, is it a necessary upgrade?

thief is shit and i regret playing 3

Seems like it, because last time I tried playing the game unmodded on a modern machine I had a bug where lockpicking wouldn't initiate.

I had a good time with them, so you're wrong

Unless you want enjoyable gameplay and presentation.

>that one mission where you stalk the rooftops, break into apartments and even accidentally summon an undead
>it's not even the beginning of the actual mission
