Just play the remake, its basically replaces the original.
As long as you don't use the built in cheats/micro transactions.
not yet, it doesn't. Wait for the rest of the remake to come out.
Sure, don't listen to the absolute retard that made the first post. The remake is actually a sequel, it only replaced itself.
I just got out of Costa del Sol and I've fucked up every single minigame so far and accidentally skipped most of the harbor since I thought I would get a chance to go back after the parade. I'm also not sure if I should be equipping Materia beyond the absolute necessary since it fucks up my stats. Am I going to get fucked down the line if I don't minmax or is this game clearable like this anyways?
I don't have a ps4 and I'd rather play the original first, unless the remake is good enough to wait for on pc.
Enemy skill is the only materia you really need. And it doesn't fuck with your stats.
if he's never played the original then he's absolutely going to be lost on the callbacks in the remake. i don't think they ever actually explain who sephiroth is despite him making constant comments that require prior knowledge. the entire remake, for some retarded reason, needs you to have played the original with honestly invalidates the concept of it
it's better to emulate it
How do you recommend doing so?
>Enemy skill
I actually have this materia but don't know what to do with it. I'm playing blind. Is this game clearable blind or am I going to have to look up a guide since I'm missing so much shit?
But the original is actually good
It's not terrible. You're forced to make a Squeenix account to even play the game and every save tries to sync with cloud saving unless if you're absolutely online, then it just waits for the cloud save to time out (10 seconds) and saves offline.
There's minor graphical changes (chibi models with a permanently open mouth, PS1 version had no mouths) and a wrong musical track playing in some important cutscenes but it runs well for a really old game. I mean, it's cheap, right?
ive been replaying it too on pc and mini games are awful. couldnt even do 1 squat.
You'll clear it no problem. But the enemy skill works like blue magic in previous FFs. You gotta survive a hit from a learnable skill to actually learn it though. Make sure to have it equipped on you at all times. You'll be glad you did.
don't listen to these retards. emulating is a huge pain in the ass and the remake is nothing like the original.
the steam version is fine, just make sure you set it to the original music version in the options. also don't fuck with the cheats.
It's the best version because you can mod it.
>You'll clear it no problem.
Alright, thanks.
I'm emulating it and I would be in hell if it was the steam version. I just fast forward through most of the battles and walking around the overworld.
Fuck off, shill. The remake requires you to have played the original, seen Advent Children, played Crisis Core, etc. to fully understand what's happening. It is a SEQUEL no matter how you cut it.
It's easily beatable blind. Don't worry about min-maxing. You essentially only need 2 single enemy skill spells anyway but don't worry about having to spoil the game.
You're right not to put too many green/red materia on characters you don't want to be dedicated healers. I recommend just absolutely having a heal+all combo or two on your party and a variety of elemental magic due to enemy weaknesses. Also in the future you'll find a materia store in a certain city that sells 'HP/MP plus' materia. Those will be expensive but absolutely worth it for the rest of the game. Try using steal as often as you can without getting bored, specially on bosses.
i pretty much went through the game not giving a fuck about the stat increases from materia and didn't have a problem. don't worry about it at all and just equip whatever materia you want, as long as you have enemy skill on someone
>enemy skill materia
uh
where was i supposed to find that because i just got to golden saucer and don't have it
please don't tell me i have to restart the game
I fucking hate using Psxr and ePSXe
And by dedicated healer I meant dedicated mage. Magic doesn't scale too well past the second level of generic spells. You'll find stronger unique materia to replace ice/fire/thunder.
There's four in the entire game. You'll find em.
The one you missed is in Hojo's lab in Shinra HQ though. Surprised you actually did miss it. It's openly displayed
OP here, It took forever for me to verify my account because square enix never sent me the email until recently so that was huge pain in the ass. I got it working now and everything is a go. Any mods you recommend?
remake is literally a new story
>Try using steal as often as you can without getting bored, specially on bosses.
Yeah, I've been doing this on new regular enemies and been getting a bunch of badass weapons and armor, but most bosses so far have been "Nothing to steal." Thanks, dude. I'd hate having to start from the beginning and whip out a guide because I'm getting my ass kicked.
is there a way to take materia from absent party members? i feel like there was in the playstation version but i have no idea how to do it on pc.
Not at all, considering it spoils huge reveals from later in the game willy nilly.
It is, OP. There is value to playing the original version through emulation and a scanlines filter though, but the steam version with the assets provided by the 7th Heaven mod manager make it a pretty great experience if you go only for the aesthetic mods. These would by things like the HD backgrounds, World Textures and updated menus.
Do you want your first experience with FFVII being traditional ? Then download the eboot, iso or bin to play through retroarch with a filter (because the original backgrounds look really bad when played on an HD screen). If you want something slightly updated, download the steam version and 7th Heaven mod manager and install Field Textures, 4x Upscale Project Edge Fields, User Interface, Enhanced Stock UI, Minigames and maybe the Battle Textures.
I'm not suggesting changing the character models though, as it kind of changes the way the game feels and you should play with the OG chibi chars the first time. Otherwise, there are a host of alternate character models you could use on a second playthrough.
Is the original worth playin on ps4 I have it on the switch but the 4:3 perspective and the stupid buttons that turn off encounters doesn't make me wanna play it
>openly displayed
I believe you but I don't remember seeing it at all. Where was it?
To be fair it is a remake but even then story is different completely
tom boy tifa tits make the game worth though
retoarch with beetle psx hw core. follow these settings if you want to make it look nicer

Exchange
ps4/switch you can avoid all the annoyances
Even when it's fully out it doesn't replace it. The "remake" is a sequel/reboot mix. Half the shit people are whining about makes no sense without the context provided by the original game.
It's not even a remake lol.
FF7 is a very easy game, so don't worry.
>spoils huge reveals
no, it doesn't
>i just got to golden saucer and don't have it
god damn user, I just got out of the saucer and have two. I don't even remember most of the game.
FUCK ME HOW DID I MISS THAT
give most green materia to the same dude and put them in the back row. I usually do this with Aeris or Barret
im a little ahead of you. the biggest thing you are missing is an expensive shield barrier spell. its helpful during bosses if you just try to brute force them. just make sure to use gear with Double materia growth (says Double in the gear inventory screen) to level Restore + All as fast as possible.
Well I've google'd some shit and found out where I can go get one. Hell of a detour though so I'm gonna get through the saucer first.
OP here, is there a CRT mod for the steam version? That sounds like it would make for the most ideal experience.
Yes it does ? Sephiroth straight up drops hknts about Aeris dying, you see the Red XIII clip from the end of FFVII and you even see the Zack clips at the end. That shit built carefully in the original and since it's his first time he doesn't know any of this shit
Are you retarded ?
Dumbass here: is it normal to sometimes not be able to cycle through enemies in battle? I can't target the guy on the far back here, for example.
