With the FF7 remake overhauling its combat to be action based is this Square's way of saying they've moved on from turn based combat? How would you fix it to be a better system and where do you see future JRPGs going in the future?
With the FF7 remake overhauling its combat to be action based is this Square's way of saying they've moved on from turn...
>Square's way of saying they've moved on from turn based combat?
They already literally said it a decade or so ago. Lightning's Armpits Adventures is supposed to their "final" Final Fantasy with some wacky attempt at turn-based combat.
Do you think someting could be down the make it popular again?
It still is popular, Persona 5 sold lots, people loved it.
wut gaem
Opera Omnia was better than every single Square Enix game that came out after FFXII. Kek.
>is this Square's way of saying they've moved on from turn based combat?
>Square only ever produces FF garbage
Retard.
FF13's gameplay is the logical next step for turn based gameplay, just improve that.
Don't know, I typed in "turn based combat" into google images if that helps
true, but it also has a great story and a lot of sim elements that people love
rude
Both have been co-existing for several decades now.
Turn based will never actually die, neither will the strive to turn games into Action hybrids.
No it isn't. It's the same as Final Fantasy X, except you only have control of one fucking character. Fuck you. XIII was garbage.
FF12 was pretty cool
>ff13
>Improve
big yikes
XII was the natural evolution but it filtered too many people for being too simplistic and easy-to-use.
>Opera Omnia
I wanted to like it but all its systems felt like a chore. Even tried to play it again but it just doesn't click with me outside the combat system.
I am 99% if it wasn't a phone game I would have enjoyed it
The genre still is about as popular as it used to be decades ago, FF is big but the genre itself isn't that big, especially outside of Japan. Some IPs died, new ones popped up, life goes on.
Dragon quest is their traditionalist franchise, FF is about throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks
Seems to have sold alright and people have come around to it in hte recent years, esp with the updates the remaster is getting
I haven’t played any old ff games. Which one has the best gameplay like battle and mini games that’s available on ps4. don’t care about story
FF9
Square Enix has a ton of other turnbased series. The problem isn't that FF went from turnbased to action. The problem is that it went from being fun to not very fun at all. There is nothing wrong with being an action RPG just make sure you have a fun system in place. FFX and FFX-2 had the best turnbased/ATB gameplay in the series. Since then it's went downhill. The gameplay getting worse with every new iteration
FF Opera Omnia (mobile)
I remember it was one of the best selling games back in 2006. It's second only to VII in terms of sales, with XIII inexplicably trailing behind as people expected a lot more from a PS3 Final Fantasy.
All of the Playstation games have nice minigames to pad out the length. Get the VII–IX PSOne Classics. VII has a lot of cool minigames, VIII has Triple Triad and IX has some card game that I forget the name of.
I'd also recommend V/XII for their battle systems, their job systems are a lot of fun.
Regarding combat, 7R is a massive improvement over XV. XV and XIII were both better then XII
I hope to see a great variety of combat systems in the future. I think a lot of JRPGs have some really interesting battle systems that allow for a multitude of setups and optimization, but one recurring issue I'm seeing is that the games are balanced for people not taking advantage of these systems. Anyone who does take advantage of these systems will find the game to be a cakewalk.
I agree with 7R being better than 15 but 13 was worse than 12 and 15 was worse than 13 In my opinion
>Square's way of saying they've moved on from turn based combat?
For Final Fantasy, sure. They've been moving FF towards real-time combat for a while now, and FF7R finally seems to have something good going.
Square Enix isn't abandoning turn-based though, they still have plenty of other IPs that make use of it like Dragon Quest, Bravely Default and Octopath. So to think that turn-based is somehow going away is nonsense.
Why the fuck does modern SR think it's a good or interesting idea to disable items?
It's just frustrating and stupid horseshit that pisses me off when Im suddenly fucked because I don't have 3 copies of Raise on every character and don't treat every character exactly the fucking same.
It's not just FF7R that gets this treatment; they do it in Octopath too, for example though to be fair, Octopath is just an all around mediocre-at-best game.
And to think I thought I'd be safe.from it, that it was only in hard mode and I didn't need to fuck around with Dark Souls tier bullshit, but fucking nope. Right in the Shibra building MANDATORY.
Fuck this shit.
And actually, no now that I think about it, Raise won't work on its own because I also need to save MP. So have to REMOVE ALL OFFENSIVE MAGIC, pdedicate every character to mashing square and weapon abilities while depending entirely on prayer group heal so I don't end up in an annoying Monopoly-style fucked-for-the-rest-of-it situation where I have to reset.
I respectfully disagree, but i commend your civility
It is popular. Persona, Xcom, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Dragon Quest are popular.
FF7R isn't exactly real time though... You have to work through menus. Seems the idea was to let you do things while the ATB bar rises.
