I don’t see how they will have full freedom with affecting the continuity of the game.
If Sephiroth is from the future and knows how things would unfold (and that’s why he’s trying to alter them) then why not just kill Cloud when he can. Or take Aeris’ holy materia. Or go and get the black materia now for himself and summon meteor.
It just doesn’t make sense, there’s no way to make sense of it.
