Sup faggots, thinking about improving my game and buying a fightstick. Do you use one Yas Forums and if you do which one is it?

I own an MLG arcade fight stick, since where I live usually every fight stick is way too expensive but these ones weren't.

Just a warning, don't buy a fight stick unless if you seriously feel like it will be a more comfortable way of playing. Sticks aren't necessarily the best way to play a game. Even keyboard can sometimes be better than a stick in some fighters. It depends a lot on the game you're playing.
For me I switch between keyboard, stick and pad depending on what I'm playing and what feels the most comfortable. Personally my reasoning for using stick is usually if the input reader sucks for other control methods (Ex. Melty Blood half circles don't work very well on keyboard) or if I need to churn butter/half circles/pretzels a lot (Ex. When playing grapplers with 360 motions or supers with double half circle inputs). Keyboard/hitbox is superior if you feel like you need to double tap directions a lot or switch between left/right very quickly which can be excellent in airdashers, assuming the input problems I stated above don't pop up in the same game.

Qanba Q4 and an old MadCatz SE fightstick.
Had to change the actual joystick on the SE though since the stock one was crap.
Q4 is real nice though.

Going from pad to stick will feel real weird at first and you're frankly just going to suck dick and feel like you never should have changed, but it gets better.

I've always had a hard time with stick, I use a fightpad instead. I feel like the Dpad gives me better control.

I've always wanted to build a custom fightstick though, with the nice plexiglass and everything.

/fgg/ should help

Forewarning buying an arcade stick wont make you better. In fact you'll go backwards briefly as you need to learn the new layout. They are super fun though and I do highly recommend them. I have a couple lying around. The Razer Panthera is actually really nice. I like it a lot. I also have a Hori RAPV and some $60 Qanba stick that was trash but it was my first stick so whatever. I just got it to play fightcade games.

It'd definitely worth going into the mid-high range rather than wasting your money on some cheap crap. You'll get a much better life out of it. I'm actually a big fan of the Sanwa buttons but honestly any name brand is fine for levers and buttons.

if you buy a fightstick don't buy a cheap one. also look into hitboxes also cause thats another good alternative. just practice and play more with a character you like and a game you like.

if you have any talent in woodworking I'd recommend buying the parts online and building one yourself.

Just play pad bro, don't fall for the fightstick or hitbox meme.

I use an old HRAP, the v3 or whatever.
Just get something from HORI.

Had a RAPV for years and recently switched to hitbox. Whatever input device you're using now, if you're used to it, stick with it. Sticks are cool but won't change anything, since you'll have to re-program your muscle memory. Otherwise, if you're that bent on using a stick, just be aware there's still a learning curve. Don't cheap out, get something with decent build quality (eg. Panthera, Obsidian, Fighting Edge).

Get a Qanba or Hori, $150 plus.

I have a Hori RAP N.
It's ok.
A Stick won't make you better at fighting games. Use whatever you're most comfortable with. If you never used a Stick and switch to it your execution will suffer a lot and that's pretty frustrating. Migrating to stick is a pretty rough process.

Japanese-style (convex tops, light activation) arcade stick buttons are the best. In games like Marvel 2 putting your entire hand on the buttons and waving it back and forth to mash is amazing chimpanzee fun.

The stick is the weak point. It's actively hard to use if your hand is too big, it's not particularly fast or accurate.

I don't advocate a hitbox or anything (too autistic) but the buttons are really the main attraction. I can see why people wanted to use them for everything.

Not going to read the thread, but a couple things:
Don't listen to dumb cucks saying not to get a stick. It's worth trying if you're interested. I personally find them much more comfortable to use for fighting games than pads.

I don't know what sticks are available today but I recommend a stick with sanwa parts. I've tried hayabusa parts and the stick felt a bit worse to use and is also louder than sanwa.

Also, the sticks I've used are a qanba obsidian, which was good (the headphone jack was shitty though), and a hori rap N, which I replaced the hayabusa joystick with a sanwa.

If you're playing on PC then you have a lot of options. You can even get a good deal on a last generation stick on eBay. Although if you do know someone who could wood work or know it yourself then you can make something pretty cool.

I don't recommend getting a stick if you are not used to it already. The adjustment might take a lot of time and effort.

I use the Hori rap, been playing on in for 5+ years. Even though I never went to an arcade in my life using stick is still great.

buy bought stick and hitbox and give yourself a autism
it mostly depends do you play with your wrist or fingers or hands

You won't improve though. It's a fun device and I love using one but for a while you will just suck. Learning a new input device is never easy.

If you are on PC, try playing on a keyboard, it's basically a hitbox.

mixbox

A stick wont make you better at fighting games.
But if you want a stick for other reasons - aesthetic, fun factor, etc, then go for it.
I've got a RapV I've modified a bit and I really like it. Still liked it even before the mods

Has any one built hever a keyboard SANWA buttons with, yes?

There are plenty of options if you want a keyboard with good buttons. I'm using one of these.

I'm on my third stick after breaking my first 2. My Qanba q1 has been very sturdy and very kind to me for such a cheap stick. I went directly to stick after finding keyboard and pads to be too uncomfortable and haven't looked back.

I use a razer panthera. Really the only good thing Razer has made.

I have a Razer Atrox that's been holding out well since I got it in 2015 or something, I expected the cable to break since it's on some shitty propriety connector but so far I'm pleasantly surprised.

I use a mixbox personally, very comfortable for my wrists and satisfying to press stuff.

hrap n

I'm in a similar boat. I use one of those PS3 Neo Geo CD controllers for a lot of 2D games. I love this thing but I simultaneously dread any issues that may come up because these things became hideously rare and expensive, so replacements aren't really on the table.

I don't and think I'm decent at DBFZ. Having a friend to git gud with will help you out though, shame I have friends that play but suck hot ass.
