Here's a secret: nobody actually likes turn-based combat in and of itself

Here's a secret: nobody actually likes turn-based combat in and of itself.
It's just that JRPGs have long, winding stories and certain kinds of people like those, so they put up with the "gameplay"

plenty of people like turn based combat. I prefer it to real time.

Wrong.

I like and prefer turn based combat.

just because you get bored when there isn't goombas to stomp and epic bing bing yippee 1-ups to collect doesn't mean everyone is the same way.

If that's what you have to tell yourself to maintain the illusion of enjoying those games, I will not stop you

The best turn based combat I've ever experienced was the Cultists Tower in Final Fantasy VI. The rest of the game and other games fall into one of two categories; spam attack until you win, or die a billion times and have to look up a guide to tell you the obscure way to defeat the enemy. I like turn based combat, but I wish there was less attack spamming while also having a level of strategy that someone could reasonably figure out.

I do.

Wow you are bad at videogames

I like turn based combat.

>nobody likes X
>actually I do
>no you just THINK you like X
If you're autistic and have no empathy or even understand the concept of someone else having a different opinion, that is fine. But please end your posts with "I'm gay btw" so that the rest of us know not to respond to you.

Okay, WHEN did anybody give you the right to speak for all gamers?

Niggas thinking they are spokespeople and try preaching from a soapbox over the internet are hilarious

the fact that most turn-based rpgs just devolve into mashing a is what makes them bad, its like playing a walking sim

I like TB when it isn't like DQ combat. I need some kind of complex gimmick to make it more than just attack/buff/heal. The ring system from Shadow Hearts is good.

Turn based combat combined with action commands is the best combat system known to man

It depends on the type of turn based combat. Some are really basic, like DQ. Others are more complex and fun.

I like press turn

You underestimate the level of autism this world contains.

>I don't like it so its autism

Turn-based is good in any game where the complexity of the gameplay necessitates it.

how do you explain niggas that like Etrian Odyssey, Class of Heroes, and games that don't really have a story outside of lore?

>actually likes turn-based combat
false

There are turn-based games besides JRPGs, believe it or not. WIth proper combat systems.

It's not about having autism that makes you like a thing, it's about being too ADHD to take turns doing something. I hope you never play a game of cards, or any board game. Not for your sake, but for that of the others at the table who'll have to put up with you rattling around in your chair like you lost your fidget spinner up your butt.

>Nobody*
how the fuck did that one word disappear from my post?

JRPGs have shit combat because they've barely evolved past the Wizardry and Dragon Quest era.

You could have done something worthwhile with your time but you made this thread instead

You're wrong. Etrian Odyssey has some of the best turn-based gameplay and functionally with the whole game being a job system self-insert with some story inbetween stratums.

play good turn based games like JA2 faggot.

There's a reason Tales games are the best JRPGs out there. Because nobody fucking wants turn-based shit. It's boring. At least with real-time you have a chance against a boss if you're under-levelled.
