It has better writing and characters. Not like there's a high standard for that in vidya but it's undeniably better then 3's, which the main story was just basically the plot of fallout 1 with the enclave and GECK from 2 thrown into it and Liam Neeson as your dad to drive the plot forward to make you leave the vault.

You really like making these NV threads, huh? I guess there's no discussing it on the cesspool known as /fog/, what with them only wanting to play FO4 and FO76.
I haven't played Fallout 3 in a while, and I don't want to fuck with my load order and bother with getting a myriad of compatibility patches for all the mods I have to play TTW, but I'm sure I'd still enjoy it for what it is; a romp in a pretty cool wasteland, just don't take the dumb story as seriously as it wants you to take it. The part of the story I hate the most is the game expecting me to believe that after 200 years the only signs of civilization that has risen up is a bunch of shitty shanty towns dotted around everywhere. Even the societies in Fallout 1 had more things going for them only 70 years after the Great War, INCLUDING having so much clean water (the thing you spend the entire main quest in Fallout 3 trying to obtain for the Wasteland) that an entire merchant group was able to make a monopoly on it, and had enough of it to spare to keep an entire Vault supplied with fresh water for, what was it, one hundred more days?

How do I have fun playing Fallout 4? I feel bad that I have the GOTY edition and have barely touched it since basically everything I loved about NV is not present in 4. People have told me FO4 is enjoyable if you don't approach it like a Fallout game, but how am I supposed to approach it then?
God damn modded New Vegas legitimately looks worse than vanilla. I'd rather look at a dated game than at plastic faces and a washed out world.

The only real problem I have with NV is that there arent enough combat encounters

Modded NV period is unstable as fuck. I hope if Bethesda insists on destroying this franchise they'll at least throw us a bone with a remaster. I don't ever see that happening though.
