JRPGs.
WRPGs are all eurojank with horribly balanced combat. People make fun of JRPG stories being "kill god" every time, but WRPG stories are fucking always "hunt down this one guy".
neither
>make 3D game
>cellshade characters to hell and back to make 3D characters with artstyle of 2D characters
disgusting
JRPGs have waifus so they win.
Holy shit is this real
JRPGs firmly
Hate the Tolkein aesthetic most of the west is stuck in
Japanese really has some heartless design, truly just a case of churning out "waifus" as fast as possible. Games from 2004 look better than this.
JRPGs that are not anime bullshit. Sadly they stopped making those 20 years ago.
Jrpgs that look like Wrpgs
i prefer the standard fantasy because its shown time and time again to lend itself really well to game mechanics, shit just gets stupid when planets start getting nuked.
We're stuck in it because JRPG has been the same two design since the 90s. We either get grimdark edgy belts and zippers, or we get the other end of the spectrum, cute cuddly weird shit.
Also their games have barely moved on in over 2 decades. Linear path,
anime story,
male protag,
cockhungry females,
comically evil villain, random encounters in an overworld(ish) map,
unskippable cutscenes,
more unskippable cutscenes,
start in hometown with everyone happy and cheery and you meet the gang and everything is warm and fuzzy and nice but then!
the villain you thought was the villain isn't the real villain,
POWER OF FRIENDSHIP,
STOP, progression halted until you grind up to level X at least.
Fluff characters there just to meet the cute quota
Annoying selfpitying or self doubting (or both!) secondary character (bonus points if there is no way to boot this character out of your party)
Give me a decent recent wrpg and we talk.
You forgot the codex that is several hundred pages worth of text and without which you will miss out on crucial details of the plot and lore.
French RPGs
Is this bait or are you genuinely retarded? How does JRPGs being same-y (in your opinion) have ANY affect on WRPG writers being stuck writing Tolkein settings over and over again
Also see series of games I posted? Something for everyone there
I can't name a single good RPG, western or otherwise. None of them let me play a role, they are all action games, nothing more. The closest I have come to feeling like I was in control of the situation my character ends up in was playing elona+, and that is far from a highly polished sleek game.
Fallout 1
>We're stuck in it because JRPG has been the same two design since the 90s
literally the first sentence of my post user, not that hard to grasp. You said you choose JRPGs over WRPGs because the latter is stuck in an aestethic. I am merely pointing out that the exact same is true for JRPGs.
RPGs are going to go the way of RTS if they don't try to spice things up, it is the same old same old in every RPG for the last 20 years. In some ways we have even regressed. AI tech has never been more advanced than right now for instance, but some modern RPGs have such crappy AI(implementation) that it is a step back from older games in some cases. eg. far cry 5 has some atrocious combat AI, calling it AI is frankly giving them too much credit, at most it can be described as a gallery shooter script
You don't know what RPG stands for, clearly.
>JRPGs selling better than ever
Whatever fag
Why is he pissing himself?
how about either?
I said recent.
She's talking about titfuck here?
it's 100% pure testosterone liquid
I don't play RPGs. I prefer FPS games
wrpgs. but I can enjoy some jrpgs
>FPS games
Brainlet detected.
In days of old I held them in equal footing although for completely different reasons from one another. But going in to the 00s when JRPGs became more movie then game, WRPGs all the way.
Oh whoops. Disco Elysium was pretty good and that came out last year. And Bannerlord just came out too.
Is there any JRPG where you actually role play? Or are they all on-rail experiences where you go through a linear, pre-defined story with linear pre-defined characters?
Unironically JRPGs. The few WRPGs I've tried (Witcher 2, Divinity Original Sins II, Oblivion) all had dull gameplay and the same uninspired generic fantasy settings with the same pompous wanna-be Tolkien prose, I dropped all of them in the early game. At least JRPGs take inspirations from various shit and not the exact same decades old fantasy novel.
How the hell is an FPS any worse than shit like this?
WRPGs
JRPGs are generic and boring turn based games that you only need to spam a single attack to win.
>is there a jrpg that plays like a shit crpg
no
Why aren't you?
Yeah it's real I taught my cat the same dance by having him listen to this song
youtube.com
JRPGs
It's from a 100% optional cutscene that is used as shitposting bait trying to paint the entire game like that:
arch.b4k.co
Some of this, some of that.
never played a jrpg, give me the best I can buy on steam right now
Western themed RPGs. Japanese trash like OP is incel and neckbeard tier.
No, she's talking about the Blade passing its weapon to its Driver, a concept Jin and Lora invented because they were too poor to buy a sword.
lmao look at this fucking character design and people tell you
>I-ITS NOT WEEB CRINGE ITS ONLY THAT ONE OPTIONAL CUTSCENE
WRPGs have a stagnant setting, JRPGs have stagnant gameplay and writing. Pick your poison.
Why would you call them roleplay games if you can't roleplay?
I have to assume people are pretending to be retarded, because "being forced to partake in something that's embarrassing to you" is such a standard comedy element that it may as well be just a pie in the face.
Man, you haven't even understood the image you posted or you would realize what I said is 100% in line with what he said. What a dumb little brainlet you are.
The last thing you want in your RPG system is for decision making to be taken out of the player's hands. It is why D&D needs a dedicated human DM, you need something that can deal with all the choices the players might make. Games can not handle this degree of freedom, so your story just gets railroaded, go here, do that, shoot that guy, no you aren't allowed to be creative, what do you mean you want to try and talk things out, you can't just LEAVE and try a different approach, no wait you forgot this [object] without which you can not progress!
You absolutely MUST be in control or have influence on the situation your character finds themselves in for it to be a proper RPG. If things are just happening to your character and your only option is to be reactionary (and reactionary in only 1 possible way) then you are not playing a role or RPG.
All modern RPGs are just railroaded actiongames no better than uncharted&co, the only difference is that the "RPG"s generally add an open world for you to pretend to have meaningful impact by choosing a faction to swear fealty to.
It is the truth and everyone knows it, your opinion changes naught.
If you're not an incel nor a neckbeard, you don't belong here.
>JRPGs have stagnant gameplay and writing
Holy shit how could I never realize NieR, Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts and Dark Souls were all the same story and played the exact same????
>2010
>wrpgs were supposed to change everything
>give us more freedom of choice.
>nothing but sandboxy garbage since.
What happened bros? Jrpgs at least still make characters for you to care about. Same can't be said about wrpgs.
>JRPGs have stagnant gameplay and writing
Wrong. Play more RPGs.
>Dark Souls
>Japanese
No
Yes
???
They were doing terrible, they hadn't hit their targets in forever. It took a bunch of remakes and returns to old franchises to save things. Ya they are doing ok now, lets hope they don't fuck it up.
witcher is based on polish folklore, not tolkien
OS 2 has anything but 'pompous tolkein prose' and is 90% comedy and lighthearted interactions
oblivion has orcs and elves sure, but they're nothing like tolkeins imagining of them, and neither is the setting, prose/narrative or storyline
you're just a deluded weeb who can't into anything that requires an iota of thought
what about mass effect? planescape torment? the fallout series? underrail? shadowrun? deus ex? system shock?
i guess they're too tolkeinesque for you too, you fucking clown
meanwhile comic relief in wrpgs is "I walked in on the player character naked and my dick fell into his ass, haha whoops"
Both have been mostly garbage for a long time.
WRPG, reluctantly... because there are a few original titles like Disco Elysium.
I really wish someone would make a good, mature, intelligent JRPG that doesn't have super-cringe inducing animations and voice acting. Too much to ask, probably.
>iota of thought
>what about mass effect? planescape torment? the fallout series? underrail? shadowrun? deus ex? system shock?
LOL
Why are you so obsessed with XB2?
>muh maturity
>meanwhile comic relief in wrpgs is
youtube.com
Literally 2 IQ.
>Holy shit how could I never realize NieR, Xenoblade, Kingdom Hearts and Dark Souls were all the same story and played the exact same????
>any of those being an RPG
Did the acronym change to mean Reddit People Games? Because that is the only way for its current use to make any sense.
>STOP, progression halted until you grind up to level X at least.
Shitter spotted
Of course I'm speaking in a general sense, there are JRPGs and WRPGs I very much enjoy.
The truth is that you can't make sweeping generalizations about either that will be true, because there's a lot of exceptions to any negative generalization. The unfortunate truth is that there are many good RPGs from both regions.
>The unfortunate truth is that there are many good RPGs from both regions.
Wrong. The only good ones are RPGs, WRPGs are shit.
>Hate the Tolkein aesthetic most of the west is stuck in
You dense motherfucker.
The entire mainline of MegaTen (and a shit ton of spinoffs) goes against almost all the "tropes" you pointed out.
But you're a smooth brain who likes going on tangets, so go ahead
Oh here we fucking go again.
Lmao all the games on the left except one are like, two decades old, how is this supposed to show the West isn't currently stuck in general European fantasy?
I can accept that you might see Nier and Dark Souls as action games but in what world are Xenoblade and Kingdom Hearts not RPGs, you retard?
Totally not stagnant at all.
JRPGS but this literally embarassing.
>make open world for dynamic gameplay(tm)
>add NPCs to interact with and create dynamic situations you can freely interact with
>forget to hire AI programmers
>NPCs reduced to spitting out 5 lines ad nauseum and can not be interacted with unless it is a question-exclamation mark exchange NPC.
Shit's boring as fuck, how can someone feel immersed in these worlds? Take skyrim or so, not only is its world fucking deserted, feels like there are about 20 characters living in a wasteland that is otherwise owned by mr skeltal and his family, but the few NPCs you do encounter exhibit the most immersive breaking behaviour, sometimes so bad it would quite literally have been better for them to have done nothing at all.
MegaTen is literally 'teenager decides the fate of the world'. How is that not a jrpg trope?
