Until VR gets to the level of Ready Player One or Sword Art Online, it will continue to be a gimmick

Until VR gets to the level of Ready Player One or Sword Art Online, it will continue to be a gimmick.

It's good that the development is picking up speed, but we're decades from seeing anything worth owning.

isnt sword art online some non-vr jap MMO, what does that have to do with VR

The absolute state of Yas Forums zoomers.

VR isn't for video games, just a bonus. Its uses for education and commercial purposes are already vast and will only build from here

I do agree that current game implementation is a little awkward right now though. We need truly tetherless sets and someway to enable endless locomotion in limited space

>non-vr jap MMO
its a fictional VR japanese MMO from an anime that has since had some spin off games. a lot like dot hack

Fuck off, I'm having fun.

>Until VR gets to the level of Ready Player One or Sword Art Online
so never

>ready player one
>world dominating mega corp ISPs
found the commiecast employee

The truth is motion games killed vr

A simple headset that tracks is all that was needed.

How do they take the phisiological needs with VR?

Preferably we can keep the internet non-monopolized while still attaining that level of VR tech.

Not if Musk-chan pulls through on his neuralink-thing. Not that I'm gonna get a fucking brain implant in order to play games.

I know those references D:

im much more interested in AR

As long as you have to be physically active, it wont break through.

Who the fuck play video game to be active? lmao

>NOOOO YOU CANT NOT KNOW ABOUT MY FLAVOR OF THE MONTH WAIFUTRASH CHINK CARTOON

If I could combine my Yas Forumsness with vidya, I'd be fucking happy. I want to actually feel the impact when I bash a monster's skull in.

This is true VR won't be mainstream in any one able to post right now's lifetime, we're decades away from true brain computer interfacing and current games are literally just a gimmick, I've tried VR several times and my friends have tried to talk me into getting a headset for shit like VR chat but literally nothing I've seen or they've had me play is anything that couldn't be done the same or better with just a normal mouse and keyboard or computer

Spoken like someone that doesn't own a VR.

Protip: We're there already.

The only problem we need to solve for consumers now is limited space. That's where room morphing technology will come into play.

Even at that level it probably won't take off by virtue of the fact you have to let yourself be fully immersed in it. And most people don't have the time or energy for that. They want something they can casually do while they let themselves shut down. VR is too much work, even if it is full emersion.
It'll have its following, but it'll still be niche.

the only real hurdle for VR at this point is foveated rendering.
if we can get a HMD that does it on the hardware & software level the price of adoption will plummet to the low $100s

musk has never pulled through with anything, he's a grifter

>if we can get a HMD that does it on the hardware and software level
isn't the Oculus Quest a standalone VR headset?

It doesn't need to be the Matrix to be fun right now.

I used to think that, but then I actually got a headset. It really is fun to have a physical presence in a video game.

That is literally magic. It doesn't exists.
Real VR is literally just immersive motion controls with head tracking.
Is it worth owning? No.

Once again, anime ruins people's expectations.

I spend more money on swords that a VR headset cost.

post fedora collection

SAO is zoomer anime. I'd venture to call it the most zoomer anime in existence.

Can't post something I don't have. Have a sword, though.

the quest is garbage compared to the index or vive 2.0/pro
nobody will buy into VR if the best thing you can play is beat saber and rec room

I nutted so hard at a 7K vr porn video yesterday that my neighbours called the police.
