No it's very linear and more a direct sequel to DS1 than DS2 was. It's at least pretty with one playthrough for the $10 and with decent bosses.
Ironically enough DS3 is as unreplayable as DS2 is playable, both sequels combined would've been the ideal and realized DS1 sequel.
