Xenogears is only like Evangelion in that both use religious and freudian themes as scenery for other discussions. Evangelion is a postmodern deconstruction of anime and anime fandom (like MGS2) while Xenogears is a gnostic themed exercise in why you don't make the 5th episode in a multi-series without getting the other 6 greenlit episodes first.
