If they address this by saying some xenos purposefully underwent gene editing/facial reconstruction through ayy tech so the humans wouldn't be as repulsed by them then that wouldn't be as bad an asspull. But all the mutons look like this in the gameplay and I am 95% sure they'll ignore the issue completely.
