It's like how Pixar used to have a really distinct style and each of their projects was a big deal that everyone worked on together, and now they just kind of pump stuff out and have a more corporate environment.

Idealistic people like him who really value the individual artists, taking risks, and keeping the soul of the work intact are always quickly made obsolete by their own success. Art through adversity and craftsmanship can make a successful product, but they can't make a publicly traded corporation's bottom lines look good perfectly on time for every investor meeting, and that's all that matters in the modern industry.

he didn't participate in anything in ff12, and him approving of matsuno only shows that he still has brains. square went ahead and kicked him out and shat up his game after sakaguchi left.

He did in early development. Sakaguchi was very involved in FF Tactics and Vagrant Story and wanted to help establishing a reocurring universe in order for the series to have more diversity. That's why Matsuno also became a producer instead of giving it all away to Kitase.
