it exists because they can sell to a large number of people, aka the fanbase wanted it. that user is right
however, the reason it's not a 1:1 remake is because nomura feels like they could never replicate the game perfectly to everyones tastes so instead they let you have a HD version (that's honestly the laziest shit) and a new modern adventure with those characters

It's removed, alongside Sephiroth's JENOVA's trail of blood and bodies. Now there's just a line of purple goo.
It is one of the most memorable scenes in the whole Midgar section. I figured they would include some version of it even with the changes they made since they went to the effort to include so many of the old scenes.
