They did it because it was a way to sell off nostalgia without making the entire game in HD. Expect the sequel parts to be shorter and less intricate than the original

however, the reason it's not a 1:1 remake is because nomura feels like they could never replicate the game perfectly to everyones tastes so instead they let you have a HD version (that's honestly the laziest shit) and a new modern adventure with those characters

It is one of the most memorable scenes in the whole Midgar section. I figured they would include some version of it even with the changes they made since they went to the effort to include so many of the old scenes.

I have forgiven the game for a lot. It has actually stayed shockingly faithful to most of FF7. THIS, however, pissed me the fuck off. That's one of the most iconic scenes in gaming and they fucked it up.
