finished this after beating automata, and loved them both... is it worth it to play through the drakengard series?

Yes except 2
I want to play this but everyone says the actual gameplay is dogshit, but the story is good? Is this true? I just want to have fun while following an interesting story and lore.
Only in the first Drakengard is it pretty bad
HUH!?! I THOUGHT AUTOMATA WAS THE ORIGINAL!?!
what's up with 2?
OP here, the gameplay is totally serviceable just a little janky. Standard hack and slash stuff that prolly could've used a lock on. The only thing that is dogshit are the sidequests but you can pretty much skip all of them.
It's like the 5th game in the series.
Drakengard 1's gameplay is the single least inspired musou/"Dynasty Warriors" you will ever play. It tries to break it up with some aerial dragon combat segments, but these are also pretty soggy.
Drakengard 3 is much better in comparison, but it's still just a janky imitation of like a DmC or something.
2 we don't talk about, Yoko Taro didn't direct that one.
2 wasn't directed by Taro and has little to do with the series
Also Taro made Drakengard to be the opposite of the high fantasy games and novels etc, then the director of 2 wanted the opposite of D1
Read or watch a walkthrough on D1 because it's genuinely unpleasant to play and is not fun at all. Drakengard 3 is worth a playthrough but in my opinion it's not as good as either of the Nier entries.
