Why is every normal battle so unnecessary long in this game?
First game never had this problem where every battle is a minigame to set up bigger damage at the end

Because it isn't.
You literally just don't know how to play this game.
And that's normal, because the game doesn't actually explain jack shit to you.
By endgame you should be setting up your combos and nuking shit immediately, all battles should go by pretty fast, unless we're talking postgame uniques, but honestly even there it's all about setting up a massive nuke, so they end up being shorter than other JRPGs.
80% of the game it feels like everything has a million HP because the game isn't letting you use all the tools, and additionally you don't have truly good blades yet.
Protip: crit is fucking everything in this game.
Protip 2: actually use pouch items, especially sweets.
is there a good tutorial on YT or somewhere?
Do driver combos.
>And that's normal, because the game doesn't actually explain jack shit to you.
That's not even true. You can't say a single gameplay mechanics that the game doesn't explain in its obnoxious popup tutorial. It's just people are too dumb to read and comprehend what is written.
If anything, my problem has always been that battles are over way too much, before I can even start utilising battle mechanics like element orbs, even bosses. The only bosses where you might have a chance doing the giga nuke is some endgame superbosses because the others die way too fast. Never understood this complaints that random battles are too long. All you had to do was read the tutorials to fix this problem.
>is there a good tutorial on YT or somewhere?
Yes.
Here:
youtube.com
Basically anything from this guy in general, his entire channel will help you.
Keep in mind if you haven't finished the game there might be spoilers in some of his vids about content and other stuff.

C'mon nigga.
It's not ONE mechanic, it's a lot of things you can do in the game, a lot of small details, that aren't explained to the player or written in find print in tutorial cards you can't even read again after you're mashing trough the first time.
I love XC2 but it has a huge problem with propely explaining some of it's mechanics and possibilities to new players.
It's why we KEEP getting these threads years after the fact.
It's why i've resorted to linking new players separate tutorials made by fans that explain this shit better than the game itself does.
That's never a good sign.
I like the game but goddamn it doesn't do a good job explaining itself to the player fully.
>a lot of small details
Like what?
The problem is that the tutorials only ever display once and often dump too much info at once. You don't take it all in, well, sucks to be you.
Most of the game endlessly blueballs you because you kill them too fast before setting up those big party attacks a lot of the time.
off the top of my head, fusion combos and their effect on DoT, or the existence of DoT at all
The combat is dogshit just like it was dogshit in XB1 and XCX. Why are you surprised?
You play these games for the world/music. The combat in the Xeno series has always been and will always been shit. Monolith can't into gameplay.
I wish the game explained the mechanics to you in a better way than 500 different text messages. I only understood how to use blade combos after seeing it in a YouTube video.
And they mostly show up at the start of the game, when you're still grasping at the basics of how the combat works.
It's too much, too early, and then the game doesn't let you do the shit you can actually do in full until way too late, and then on top of that doesn't explain some of the shit you can do even if you get to the proper point in the game.
It's just a confusing mess.
Can you name even a single thing that isn't explained?
It's utterly mindboggling that there is no blade combo chart in the game, so you need to pull up a wiki to properly plan your blade setup.
It gets better as time goes on, unfortunately they make you wait ages to get a full set of blades in your party.
Not really, no. XC2 is one of the very few jRPGs where I bothered to go up to Lv.99 instead of just finishing the game and that's it, because the combat was so much fun, especially against superbosses.
I could never go back to base XC2 after playing TTGC because of all the QOL updates it made, from the graphics to the collection points to the (better) battle system
>And they mostly show up at the start of the game
Thanks for pointing this out, because I was memed up with "b-but ther are tutorials thorough the entire game", because I found out that's not true at all. Everything is explained in the first 3 chapters, which is still the beginning of the game, and then you maybe get 2 or 3 other ones until the end, and they're necessary because they match what happens with the story, ie Pneuma appearing allowing for new gameplay elements, same for Blade Nia, and that's fine.
How is it possible then that I didn't need to watch youtube videos and read wikis to be able to do driver and blade combos, and killing mobs faster than I was ever able to finish mechanics properly?
I understood driver combos just fine since I had played XC1 and X, but I didn’t understand blade combos at all, even after clearing the battles in a Challenge Mode...
Complete reverse for me. While I liked some elements introduced in Torna, and wish to see them in XC3, it also made the combat braindead easy, it became orb spamming without any thought. I still commend they went as far as making a new battle system for a DLC, no other dev would go that far, and i also understand its battle system fits the shorter game that is Torna. But it just wouldn't work in a 100h game.
? But the combat in base XC2 is already braindead. The enemies have zero mechanics you're just spamming the same attacks and combos over 100h instead of 30.
XC2 combat is like MMO combat except with none of what makes it good.
100 hours in and I still don’t understand how to do fusion combos
See
It's literally just doing a driver combo while the little bar of a blade combo is still ticking down above an enemies health bar.
Fusion combos are your friend
wtf is DoT?
? But that comment is braindead. Its poster have zero argument and it's just spamming the same words everytime.
This comment is like generic argument that could be applied to every jrpg in existence.
Depth of Throat?
I wish MMOs had combat as fun and dynamic as XC2 with its multi layered combo system. So far I always fall asleep when playing MMOs. What are those MMOs with XC2's combat? Because I eagerly would like to play them. Having the persistent world of a MMO, which is a big plus, alongside such combat, would make it the dream game for me. I could spend my entire life on it.
