ME1 has a much better plot and in context was a much more important game for what it did. It was a new, ambitious IP with hugely improved character facial expressions and dialogue cinematography, at a time when the stuff people had in RPGs were Oblivion's garbage potato faces. Also wildly popularized waifu shipping among non-weebs
Gameplay wise ME2 is more fun, but it's also a product of its era (i.e: cover shooters)
