Is Mass Effect 1 a better game than Mass Effect 2?

No

haha blue boobies

I love both. The first Mass Effect (the first time I played it) was the most unique game I ever played.

Game? No. Experience? Yes.

Yes,
Because Mass Effect 1 was made by Bioware and Mass Effect 2 was made by EA

What a Reddit opinion.

Mass Effect 2 was literally EA saying "We want the Call of Duty audience" and changing the game from an RPG to a FPS with alien sex.

Every Mass Effect and Dragon Age game after the first ones are pretty bad if you go in expecting a decent game and not normie bait for idiots made with data from EA's focus groups

>better shooting mechanics means it was made for normies
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! YOU CANT HAVE ENJOYABLE COMBAT! IF YOU DO THAT CHADS WILL INVADE MY HOBBY

No

Sounds like you're one of the normies that unironically prefers a bland shooter literally aimed at stupid people instead of an RPG

>changing the game from an RPG to a FPS
find some bleach to drink.

I don't like the series, but holy shit have you drunk the Yas Forums kool aid.

>ME1
>RPG
Pick a fucking one

Cope. 2 is the pretty much the exact same game as 1 just with better gameplay

cant she make her boobs larger because thats what humans find attractive

ME1 because its an rpg

2>1>3

ME1 has a much better plot and in context was a much more important game for what it did. It was a new, ambitious IP with hugely improved character facial expressions and dialogue cinematography, at a time when the stuff people had in RPGs were Oblivion's garbage potato faces. Also wildly popularized waifu shipping among non-weebs

Gameplay wise ME2 is more fun, but it's also a product of its era (i.e: cover shooters)

Citadel was good. Mako, Feros, and Noveria sucked.

>but it's also a product of its era (i.e: cover shooters)
But ME1 is also a cover shooter and a really clunky one at that. I don't know how people forget this.
I agree with everything else you said though.

It's not an rpg

They are somewhat different. I like them both.

Love my blueberry as well.

Whether 1 or 2 is better depends on player's preferences.

First game still has some of the legacy of the old style crpgs. Second game has a much better combat, but those very crpg elements were removed to streamline the gameplay.
First game had shitty copypasted prefab locations that made all side missions look the same, god awful inventory management, running huge distances back and forth for secondary objectives. Bullet sponge enemies and guns with no impact. But at the same time it had ambition, vision and a decent beginning to a story.
Second game fucked up paragon system, tying dialogue choices to a percentage of points you could have earned at this point in the story. The actual plot was a filler, because they couldn't start Reaper invasion until the third game, and they made a lead to it in a fucking DLC after the main plot is finished. But, combat was getting actually fun, excess bloat was trimmed from abilities, weapon and armor management was a huge improvement, side missions were in actually unique locations. Missions and DLC helped to take a look at the world of the game at large, not just from the point of stopping an enemy. Characters had more personality and dialogue.

Personally, I prefer ME2 all in all. But I can understand those who say that ME1 is a better game.

miles better, i dont understand the love for 2, the only thing better is the combat which still blows

A poor man's Gears of War with 90% less powers and actions is not a very big improvement

ME1 is an rpg with shitty shooting added on, ME2 is a shitty shooter with a tiny amount of rpg elements

This.

>ME2 is a shitty shooter
Honestly, I liked it more than most shooters. Needed more enemies with different abilities and more abilities for player and companions.

Infinetly so

ME1's combat mechanics was wonky, but interesting enough to play around with different builds
Then instead of improving and ironing out the quirks on that system, ME2 throws it all away fr a bog standard 3rd person cover shooter system

>me2 tards prefer scanning to driving a bouncy AFV

Not really. I've replayed both dozens of times.

Mass Effect 1 is ok if you never do side missions. Lord have mercy if you decide to do a 100% completion because it's literally more repetitive than Dragon Age 2. There's the same three maps used for every single side mission, its gets so bad holy shit. And the combat really isn't very good. At least not on Nightmare.

nothing in ME2 is anywhere near as good as the ilos section of ME1

>muh Gears of War
The cover system has been there from the start. The only difference is that in ME2 you have to press a button to get into cover.
Was ME1 also a poor man's Gears of War?

>better shooting mechanics
>worse everything else

Mako is alright but I'm not nostalgic over it. Especially if you are completionist and want to get all those hidden resources on planets... I like Hammerhead or what's its called in ME2 more as far as movement goes, but it felt more restrictive than Mako.

f(th)pbp

ME1 Mako exploration was peak jank, but once again a decent concept that ME2 should've improved upon instead of throwing into the trash

Not only ME1 is a better game but it also has better combat.

How is it better?

Mass Effect 1 is like an ambient album whereas Mass Effect 2 is a techno album

Sup Yas Forumstards, I need your help. Should I play Mass effect 1 first? I'm at that point where I don't know what to play, I'm also a lazy fuck and strarting new games is tedious to me. Should I give it a try or does it take a bit to get into it?

It doesn't try to be Gears of War so no, it's more a poor man's kotor that hurls a bunch of shooting mechanics and stats at the screen and sees what sticks

Those empty planets in Mass Effect 1 with occasional weather conditions and alien wildlife were awesome, even if not in the inteded ways. I also enjoyed how you could use space magic on environment, not just against enemies like in Mass Effect 2.

Nope

.. Except ME2 DID improve the Make
..... in DLC

yeah it is.

I liked the small text blurbs that would pop up upon investigating objects, some hinting at past explorers or cosmic horrors lurking around
Added some neat mood and flavor to the game, even if it was usually lazily done

Many more strategic options. Not only for your character, but also for the other party members. More abilities, more customizable things, abilities have more impact, they have indepent timers, you have grenades, you can customize your equipment a lot more (even if a bit of it is redudant as some options are frequently just better verions of older ones, I will admit), you can actually properly customize the equipment of your companions, that just isn't viable in ME2, the heat system instead of the bullet system in ME2, and so on.
Also, your general strategy for something in ME1 will very frequently be different from "jump from cover to cover".

ME2 combat is pretty much a worse version of gears of war with some very poor RPG-like elements added to it, some that frequently don't even make sense.

You get import bonuses. Not much but can get benefits like starting 2 at level 3, more credits and resources at the start. Oh and the whole fuller experience thing.
