How can the devs possibly insist not only that they weren't influenced by Dark Souls (and Bloodborne probably) but even that they hadn't played it (or was it that they hadn't heard of it) when it so blatantly copied so much?

How is Hollow Knight Dark Souls inspired?

>Game is slightly hard and Bosses must mean is a soulslike.
Gamers really think this.

Uhhh...ummmm....
Light and dark or some shit..
Ummm...city place...some knights or shit...
OH BENCHES ARE BONFIRES HOLY FUCK LOOK AT THIS LACK OF CREATIVITY

Hollow Knight is so much better than any Souls game it's not even funny.
Maybe FromSoft can copy HK and Elden Ring might actually be a good game?

The sequel to this game better have good movement mechanics right from the start. It looks and sounds fantastic but god damned, it's so boring to walk until you get the dash and double jump. This is a sin in any metroidvania.

It is strange. There's nothing wrong with being influenced by another game. Why deny it?

really, you need to ask?

>'hollow' beings like in dark souls, literally in the fucking title
>setting is a collapsed kingdom past its prime
>dark and gloomy mood in that setting
>visual style of the game for a great part is like an amalgamation of dark souls and bloodborne styles
>sparse/cryptic plot that you can piece together if you care or not if you don't
>labyrinthine/looping level design
>but also open and allowing you explore it on your own terms
>lose all souls/geo upon death but can go back to place of death to recover it
>benches are kind of like bonfires/lanterns
>friendly (or not) npcs that appear in places across the map that you will meet again and again in different places as you progress
>infection in hk like undead curse in ds
>similar types of endings and requirements to achieve the endings in the games
>considerable focus on boss fights
>muh difficulty (some say (though i personally disagree that either of them are difficult))

the notable difference is pretty much just that dark souls is a lot more combat focused and customisable, while hollow knight is focused more on platforming and player dexterity
sure, one by one those points can apply to a whole bunch of games and don't really mean anything, but when you collect all of those together, not to mention that there's probably a bunch that i failed to mention, the similarity is quite great

some people really think dark souls invented checkpoints and grimdark aesthetic
let that sink in

yeah I mean I'm not even complaining about the similarities between them, but rather about why the devs need to lie about it
