You haven't played the original game or you completely misread the character.
Aerith is extroverted and flirtacious, whereas Tifa was demure and shy, even though their character designs and jobs are typically the other way around. That's the exact effect that sakamoto was going for, to turn those character archetypes of the demure white mage and the spunky tomboy fighter on their heads. It's part of the reason Aerith and Tifa have had uncharacteristic longevity as far as Final Fantasy waifus go.
