Can't draw or code

>Can't draw or code
>Bought a PC to learn programming, played games on it instead
>Had no experience or knowledge about game development, applied to a job anyway
>Somehow managed to land a job at Capcom because it was the 90's
>Ends up being a planner on the original Resident Evil
>Mikami likes him so much, he's allowed to direct the sequel
>At 26 Kamiya is in charge of his own first video game
>RE2 blows everyone away and breaks sales records
>Goes on to make DMC, revolutionzes 3D action games forever
>Later makes Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, Okami, Wonderful 101
>Flawless track record and considered one of the most talented game designers around

People make fun of idea guys, but gaming not having enough Kamiya's is why it sucks now. Everything is too controlled and corporate, you need to be "right for the job" and have a massive resume; when in actuality you need an passionate madman with a great vision.

Same shit with Miyazaki and Kojima

>Flawless track record
Mikami literally cancelled his RE2 and brought onboard another scenario writer to fix the game.

>RE2 blows everyone away and breaks sales records
Not before running it down to the ground
>Goes on to make DMC
Not before running RE4 down to the ground as well

was just wondering today how old he was when he directed his first game. wasn't far off.

What people like you never understand is that there's no need for "idea" guys. Anyone can have an idea. It isn't a skill set. "Idea guys" are people that have no skills and aren't worth hiring. If you stuck a 40 year old mother in a room for a month and told her to come up with plot ideas, characters, themes, and objectives and gave her nothing else to do she'd come up with all sorts of stupid shit eventually.

Knowing this there's no reason to hire someone "for their ideas" instead of hiring someone who can actually perform a task and is going to have their own dumbass ideas as well.

Boomers had it easy. Hideo kojima had no technical skills either and I believe neither did miyazaki? Can you imagine getting hired to work on games with no background now

why do his glasses look like they were photoshopped in?

>miyazaki

the serial killer? the fuck does he have to do with video games?

>there can't be two people with the same name
He means the director of from software games (demons souls/dark souls etc)

>makes much better games than kamiya
>more successful
>created a new genre that is imitated by everyone
>not bald
>not an angry manlet
>not mentally ill and seething on twitter all day
>not a tranny fucker

I saw a talk with Ken Levine and it basically boiled down to the same shit of just showing up without qualifications. It was a different time and the industry wasn't the same.
And here's me just hoping I can find a new programming gig without the developer going under in nine fucking months again.

Kamiyas biggest strength is just being a shitposting retard that likes vidya and isn't concerned about anything. I saw him at gamescom 13 or 14 and he wouldn't stop doing dumb poses with W101 and Bayonettafags. It stands in huge contrast to "professionals" when there is a fag goofying around in the middle of it

Weird that you went there instead of the better known anime director.

>already made a fully working but bad video game all by myself on itch
>nobody would hire me

Stupid argument to make because not all idea guys are created equal. Most people have bad ideas, or they can't properly articulate what's good about their ideas; which Kamiya clearly can. He knows how to work with his team and that's what's important.

seething responses from autistic stem types are delicious.

I think his skill as a creator would be truly tested if he didn't just make souls type games, maybe he's a one trick pony. Kamiyas games might be commercial failures but they're all different

Seething bald manlet

Bot only that, more directors need fo venture out with genres. Kojima could've walked away from MGS at any point but it's clear that it was just Konami twisting his arm.

>Just make a portfolio bro, it shows your initiative and employers will hire you

He did do an Armored Core game, but yes up until Sekiro he has been making the same game. Even then Sekiro still has a lot of Souls baggage.

yeah deracine is just another souls game
just like sekiro

>not bald

lmao

Blocked desu

>Anyone can have an idea. It isn't a skill set.
This is the "early access procedurally generated open-world survival with crafting and battle royale elements" mindset.

Ideas for the most part aren't "good" or "bad" they're just executed better or worse. Nobody wants you on their team if all you can do is say "guys wouldn't it be cool if..."

>>Goes on to make DMC, revolutionzes 3D action games forever
>>Later makes Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta, Okami, Wonderful 101
those are all 8/10 games at best though.
his only good game remains Resident Evil 2 - which is a fantastic 10/10

>Ideas for the most part aren't "good" or "bad" they're just executed better or worse. Nobody wants you on their team if all you can do is say "guys wouldn't it be cool if..."

Except that's a bad idea guy, Kamiya literally playtests the shit out of his games himself and spends hundreds of hours making sure everything is polished and clicks.

Stop calling successful directors "idea guys". The whole point of that term was to describe people without any talent or skill, just ideas. Directing requires a lot of skill and knowledge. If you know how to properly direct a team to fully realise your idea then you cease to just be an "idea guy".

Devil May Cry 1 is way more influential than the Souls games, in fact the Souls games wouldn't even exists without DMC1.

You mean 9/10 at worst.

Oh so you mean Kamiya actually does work besides say ideas. Thanks for proving my point. Fucking retarded idea guy.

dumbass.

He's literally an art student. He got the job by sending in art for games, rather than just a plain resume.

the only game influenced by dmc is bayonetta, which was made by the same guy
