One of the anons on the last edition told me that FFXII art sorta *completes* these threads, but I'm still kinda indecisive about that, so for now I'll stick to using plain ol' various artwork.

Things are gettin' saucy in my Nocturne playthrough; the Obelisk's deactivated, Reasons are now a thing that appear, and Asakusa is more open. Can't wait to see what comes next. Kinda. I'm still scared shitless at the thought of Fiends and whatnot.

Weeeell, I'd kinda beg to differ; aesthetically, it's pretty damn great, but sometimes it's a pain to navigate. Then again, I'm still sorta new to it since I navigate Tokyo more than Amala, so whatever.
I've yet to form an opinion on whether or not pre-Obelisk is "the best," but it's certainly been wild so far. Hats off to the entire Mantra/Nihilo bit, though - the Nightmare System activation scene and the events thereafter were. fucking insane

Playing KH2:FM on the 1.5/2.5 bundle. Going through a Critical LV.1 playthrough and just beat story Roxas. Honestly having a blast doing a LV.1 run, but the beginning of the game is one hell of a casual filter.

SMT IV for sure, as mentioned - in part because it's great for newcomers to the series *and* it adds some QoL stuff to SMT's base gameplay - but I'd also recommend checking out Soul Hackers after you've gone through IV. One of, if not *the* best cyberpunk JRPG.
Persona 3, I guess? Takes place in a fairly modern time / setting and the pacing finds a balance between fast and slow.

It's an action RPG taking place in Tokyo where you are some kid who winds up dealing with weird dimensional incidents and dealing with secret societies that have their own goals with the incidents.
I know it sounds interesting but it comes out as generic.
There's a Persona like social stat system that has 3 categories. I forgot their names but I remember how to increase them:
Do good in the dungeons (you can replay them for better rankings)
Sidequests
Answer questions correctly
and you need to get a combined 8 stars (each stat has up to 5 stars) to unlock the true ending.
overall a 7/10 full of re-used Cold Steel assets

Understandable. I heard some stuff about how the Tartarus grind represents *something* and is therefore tied to the story, but that doesn't really make it any less worse.
If it helps, 3's PSP port puts boss fights on a fairly equal level to you, as long as you're not laughably underleveled - i.e. you can rush a certain (sub)block in a couple of days, and by the time you hit a dead end, there's a 95% chance that you'll be more than ready enough without having to grind any further.

I beat Yiazmat on the original with like 8 hours taken total to kill him. I remember reading that regular attacks can break damage limit in ZA so Yiazmat becomes easier than the original. That true?

twewy just doesn't work on anything that isn't a dual screen handheld with a stylus. blame nintendo for abandoning that model. square would have had to remove the unique gameplay and turn it into a more conventional action rpg to make it work on modern platforms.

I'd say the real deal obelisk later is the best because it's your victory lap. Most of the game you have to be careful around random mobs but by the Obelisk you can just blast everything away with almighty damage and feel like a big deal boss.
