No. Outside some of the bosses and the first level of Tower of Latria the game is completely forgettable and bland compared to DaSo.

They either didn't offer to do it or the parent decided not to sell it.
Sony has in the past tried to acquire studios and IPs like how they're currently trying to do with Silent Hill. But sometimes franchises and companies won't sell their IP because the potential to make more money is still there.

Dark Souls did nothing Demon's Souls didn't aside from connected maps and broken covenants.
Dark Souls also has ridiculous, retarded characters and over the top fantasy worlds whereas Demon's Souls is much more grounded.
