Was talking to a friend about this, but I feel like the entire fucking game should have been about Maliwans merger and the chink dude in charge of it. Have him expanding their operations, causing all sorts of shit on multiple planets, and maybe have Tyreen and Troy as bit characters to simply explain why the psychos were helping Maliwan.
There are plenty of aspects of the COV that are fine, but the story around the DeLeon family is completely garbage. IT shouldn't have been a focus, and would have served better as a side story that people could easily ignore.

It's honestly the worst it's ever been. Handsome Jack was also a fucking memelord, but adding the layer of social commentary on influencer culture really just pushes the twins into a new level of cringe. The only thing worse than being cringe is being cringe while trying to make a point.

To be fair, the twins had SOME motivation. It was just handled VERY poorly. Daddy issues, dead mommy issues, and knowing they were special while also being locked away so they couldn't go out and be special. Hell, as generic as it sounds, it would have been better if they went out to try and take over the galaxy to "save" everyone, only to be a tyrannical force that was blind to its own injustice. Generic, sure, but you could at least understand they came from a place of good intent. It's never explained why the became evil and wanted to kill everything. It's never explained how Typhon was a bad dad. The current writing is so bad, ANYTHING would have been better, though I could also honestly imagine it being worse.

Fucking this. I pirated recently to blow through it with a bud and I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it on the gameplay side of things. The maps are great, lots of versatility to make use of the new movement system, which is really fun to use, and the new alt fire gimmick was pretty neat as well.

But HOLY fuck I cannot even begin to fathom how they could botch the writing this hard. The constant, non-stop, never-ending drone of some fucker yammering in your ear with the most inane drivel was driving me insane. The cutscenes were long and un-interesting and so so so poorly written. It is actually a step down from previous entries in terms of story/writing and I didn't think they could get any lower.

A villain can be bad just to be bad, but some kind of baseline "This is why" should be there to make it feel justified. BL3 doesn't really address this at all. By all accounts, Tyreen and Troys upbringing was passed off as "bad parenting" despite their father being pretty inoffensive and even likable most of the time. He's a short, fat, jewish Indiana Jones that doesn't overstay his welcome.
My friends and I still play the game for the gameplay. The DLCs are much better, and once you get through the main story, all you have left is good gameplay and decent boss-fights, which makes the game much more enjoyable.

I wonder how people came to the conclusion that twins are bad while Jack is suddenly a great villain, especially on Reddit (yeah I know). Newsflash, they all suck. The story in all Borderlands suck. Nobody plays these games for the story and those who do are retards for expecting a good story. What matters is the gameplay which was improved after each installment and that's it.

But you can't have a normal discussion about the 3rd game without autists screaming about how everything is cringe.

The idea of the two villains being parodies of streamers/twitch culture is not that bad of an idea, especially for a game that is generally about trying to be funny, but these came up with TWO jokes about streaming and repeated them over and over:

That is it. Why were they not polling their followers on what emotes to add? Why not have annoying ads pop up when they're trying to give their evil speeches? Why not play music and then have them get a copyright strike or have the stream be muted? Why not have some other random person host them? How about reading out donations on stream (I have a vague memory of them maybe doing something like this once, but I might be wrong)? It seems so strange they came up with this idea of streamer villains but couldn't actually come up with really anything humorous for them to do.

Jack is cringe 90% of the time, with the other 10% showing who he is under the layers of cringe he's hiding behind. The twins are just genuinely cringe.

Jack's writing isn't head-and-shoulders more cringe than the rest of BL2. I still remember physically cringing when my character quipped "cool story bro" in the middle of a firefight.

Your character kills more people than the villains do. Are they the villain, or simply someone you disagree with or were coerced into killing for someone else's gain? Who's the real villain? That's why their "reason" doesn't matter, you may as well be the villain.

Tyreen and Troys entire goal is to become The Destroyer and DESTROY ALL LIFE. If you fail, they get the higher body count. If you win, you get the higher body count, but it's still far less than what they would have had. Everyone you kill is directly trying to kill you. Your logic is garbage.

God having a streamer antagonist could've been such a cool idea but they didn't take advantage of it at all

Some interesting ideas bogged down by boring areas that are too big with far too few enemy spawns.

So mix borderlands with some elements of crackdown. I can get behind that.

Also Eden 6 is by far the worst paced planet in the game.

Her whole shtick is about social network/twitter culture where she's supposed to be a shallow e-celeb cunt with braindead followers, her being a representation of modern e-celeb culture and e-celeb obsession where even the most vapid of idiots are idolized who make millions. Her posse is even cult sounding as Children of the Vault.
