I have never touched a single Resident Evil game and I don't tend to like the idea of remake since, even though I love graphical improvements, they tend to ruin the gameplay to make it "modern" and change the story to be as politically correct as possible.
I was watching comparisons and jesus christ the original ones look like crap and the remakes don't seem to really change the story, I don't like what hey did to Carlos in RE3, making him all niggerish, "hehe latinos can't be white silly" is racist af.
But the gameplay seems to have actually improved, unlike in FFVII in which they removed the iconic combat for a hack and slash.
Also how come there is no remake of the very first Resident Evil? it's the oldest and the most unplayable one, why RE2 and RE3 get the remake?
If you haven't played a Resident Evil game by this point, don't bother now. The modern remakes may have modern gameplay design, but the core design stays the same.
Easton Peterson
Oh then I'll just play the remakes. Look more like remasters to me since they don't really change the story. And I prefer the new gameplay.
Ian Miller
>Also how come there is no remake of the very first Resident Evil? Because it already was remade.
Evan Bell
The gameplay (as, the movement and shooting) changes but the core game doesn't. It's still the same mid 90's >Door closed, requires three objects to open >Search for objects >find the first for the second you need to find another object >The object required to unlock the second object is hidden behind a "press those switch in the correct order, some hints here" puzzle >Solve puzzle, keep searching for the third object >But wait, you ran out of space because you can only carry a few objects with you, gotta backtrack to the next safe vault to drop objects >After a pretty long walk you found the third object. Gonna make constant forward and backwards trips carrying the other two objects. >All while you're rationing supplies because they're few and the enemies are many >Unlocked the door using the three objects. Now you have to do the same on the next area >Repeat until the end of the game.
As I said before, the only people who enjoy Resident Evil are the one who started playing those games back in 1995. Now it's not worth the trouble.
Aaron Perry
The 2015 remaster? It looks good but it's nowhere near as good as the new ones. For a 2015 game it looks 2009. It's obviously an improvement from the original 5 pixel face but it's still not what we deserve.
Adrian Martinez
>For a 2015 game it looks 2009 You make that sound bad for a 2002 Gamecube game.
Jonathan Stewart
It's an amazing remake. It doesn't need to be remade again.
Justin Morgan
REmake 2 is great
Dylan Rogers
>Are Resident Evil Remakes good? REmake 1 (2002) is a 10/10 game, but it will be better if you've played classic RE1 (and preferably 2-CV). DEmake 2 and 3 are absolute garbage. Avoid them. They are NOTHING like the classics, and cut + fuck up everything.
I would honestly just play the classic games, from RE1 to 4, and call it quits.
Are you a moron? The REmake of RE1 was made in 2002, and it is 100 times superior to the original. The 2014 released version is a mere HD remaster OF that REmake.
Christopher Myers
>For a 2015 game it looks 2009 A 2002 Gamecube game upressed is looking pretty good then 2 and 3 remake are still good. Not 10's like REmake, but 8's
Caleb Myers
That remake is originally from 2002 you retarded zoomer
Eli Sullivan
>Second post shit all over RE2R >Almost everyone agrees with it Are you sure about that?
Evan Myers
Re2 remake is a great starting point if you've never played resident evil and don't want to deal with dated mechanics
Logan Fisher
>Are Resident Evil Remakes good? First one is. Rest aren't. >they tend to ruin the gameplay to make it "modern" and change the story to be as politically correct as possible That's exactly what happened with the latest DEmake 2 and 3. >I was watching comparisons and jesus christ the original ones look like crap Stop being a graphics whore. The originals look great for their age, have superb art-directing, and FAR superior audio world.
>the remakes don't seem to really change the story 1 does not. 2-3 do, a great deal. >But the gameplay seems to have actually improved, unlike in FFVII in which they removed the iconic combat for a hack and slash. How can you spew such double-standarded bullshit in a single sentence?? The RE2-3's remakes are EXACT same shit as FF7R, as in NOTHING like the classics. RE1's remake was made by OG team, for the OG fans of the series, so it is still extremely faithful to the original design.
>Also how come there is no remake of the very first Resident Evil? Wait, what? We already got one 17 years ago! And it got HD ports on every system imaginable! >it's the oldest and the most unplayable one ...What the fuck do you mean?! Even the 1996 classic RE1 is still perfectly playable, and the very corner stone of the series. >why RE2 and RE3 get the remake? Because REmake HD sold like hotcakes, after it was freed from Nintendo's shackles. This shocked Crapcom so much, that they not only pushed out RE0 HD in record time, but also made 7 and REmake 2 - both which were made for the modern, casual console faggots. Seriously, want to get into RE series? PLAY THEM IN RELEASE ORDER.
Bro... changing the gameplay from a shotter with a camera on the roof to shooter over the shoulder is not a big change.
Going from turn based 2D system to hit, run in circles, heal, hit, run in circles, heal is A HUGE GAMEPLAY change.
I am a graphic whore, same as you want a pretty girlfriend I want a pretty game. Everyone likes pretty things, stop with the fucking gay "what matters is on the inside", if I can have the same game but with external beauty, i'm picking it.
You seem extremely bias against RE2 and 3 remake. Care to explain why? Because you just say "it's bad" but don't say why, i checked and there isn't LGBT shit, they only niggerified Carlos, made the females uglier, I hate what they did to Jill outfit but i'd rather have a lara croft 2.0 than 5 pixels face.
Nah you're just blinded by nostalgia, fixed camera angles are just a nuisance more than anything
Brandon Young
>So, wait. There was a Resident Evil 1. Then they remade it in 2002, and then in 2015 they made a remaster of that 2002 remake? In short, yes. There was like a dozen ports of RE1 on various systems throughout the years too, with varying levels of changes. It was pretty much the "RE4" of its time.
>What happened to the very original then? ...Nothing? It's still there. It came out on PS1 (3 times), Saturn, PC (twice), and Nintendo DS. It's also on PSN Store, though I recall it being the awful, notorious "Dual Shock Edition" of the "Director's Cut" version.
>And why the remaster is so shitty if they only had to update stuff? What are you even saying? The REmake is one of the greatest games of all time. It's for everyone's best interests to keep it as precisely the same as physically possible. The only major disappointment concerning the 2014 re-release was the fact that the pre-rendered BGs were not re-rendered at higher res, just upscaled using Photoshop filters and other touch-ups, simply because Capcom never saved the OG 3D files for them. They did manage to salvage RE0's BGs though, and they look gorgeous as fuck even at 4K.
>fixed camera angles are just a nuisance more than anything Not him but they have their advantages
Owen Carter
>muh nostalgia No son, (You) just have never ever played the games at all. I'd never touched a single RE or SH game before ~2011, and I absolutely adore the classics of both series. I'm glad not everyone's as ADHD as (You).
Colton Edwards
Np mate! If this shit starts to feel too overwhelming, just emulate the PS1 originals on whichever emulator you dig. Can't get simpler than that.
>fixed camera angles are just a nuisance more than anything Nope. They are a timeless design choice, that provide devs much more options and guidance tools than First-person or OTS viewpoints. Not to mention they practically automatically make any room and hallway instantly more atmospheric and memorable.
I've watched some playthroughs of r3make on YouTube last night: - forced walking sections with radio talk - idiotic qte sequences - fighting nemesis in cutscenes instead of making player feel good for dealing final blow
To me this is resident evil 6 all over again. Is re2 remake any different? Hated 6 for this forced walking and qte crap
Jose Jones
Boomer RE/horror-fag here. The original Remake on GC is easily the golden standard to which all the remakes are still compared to. An absolutely faithful, yet skillfully updated remake of the older classic. Perhaps *the* best survival-horror game, period. I was seriously looking forward to the remake of #2, because it was like this "Half-Life 3" of the RE-fanbase. Almost twenty years later, we finally got it, only to find out that it's been cut and simplified to make it, quote, "more accessible by modern, wider audiences". All that autosaves, auto-balanced difficulty, constant mission reminders, and a heavily streamlined exploration and puzzle elements just water down the experience, and the audio-visual directing is just not hitting the required marks. Very disappointing. So far, only few people have anything good to say of the remake of #3.
My suggestion: try the first remake, if you truly cannot be bothered to even test the PS1 originals. Then, if it clicks with you, jump to the original 1998 and 1999 Resident Evil 2 and 3. Maybe check out the original RE1 even, just to see how much was changed. The leap from REm1 should not be too major at that point.
>- forced walking sections with radio talk That can all be skipped. Also if you think RE3's "QTE's" (and I put it in quotes because that's using the term loosely) are anywhere near as bad as 6's then you have bricks for brains
Andrew Evans
Thanks for this important piece of information, bruh. Only played re1, 3, cv and 4. All the hype around 2 remake and DMC V (which I enjoyed) seemed like capcom is back
Is re2 remake any good?
Angel Thompson
sounds based
Daniel Green
>Is re2 remake any good? Yeah. If you enjoy RE I think it's very likely that you'll enjoy 2 remake. It goes on sale quite a bit so if you're on the fence wait till then. Or just pirate it if you play on PC
Levi Cooper
35 years old here. I disagree about RE2R and I think I like it as much as any of the Playstation entries. Play it on hardcore; it's not different from the old survival horror games.
Josiah Adams
>changing the gameplay from a shotter with a camera on the roof to shooter over the shoulder is not a big change. No mate, it is a MAJOR paradigm shift, that changes literally everything. With fixed, cinematic camera-angles, the devs could utilize ALL the cinematography theories to not only build atmosphere, but also to guide the players. It gave developers the power to control and direct players any way they wanted, without forcing them into scripted set-pieces or into a cinematic.
This also highlighted the ADVENTURE-game roots of the series, that is all about exploration, mapping the playable area, finding loot and secrets, and unlocking new areas, bit by bit. Even the action part was connected to this design philosophy; instead of the generic "point & click" shooting of the 3rd person action games, you had to first learn the "rules" of the game, and then figure out how to read and execute possible actions the most effective way in the ever changing room layouts and enemy mob compositions.
>I am a graphic whore Yes, I could already tell.
>same as you want a pretty girlfriend I want a pretty game No, I want a FUN game, just like I wanted a FUN girl that does nag and enjoys similar things. That girl is now my wife, and we both loathe these zoomer De-makes of what are some of our favorite games ever.
Classic RE games are still gorgeous as fuck.
>You seem extremely bias against RE2 and 3 remake. Care to explain why? Short answer: because I waited nearly 2 decades for RE2-3 to get the "REmake treatment", and when it was finally promised to us, we instead got a streamlined action-horror travesty. This is EXACTLY as terrible fucking joke as FF7R is to FF7 fans; I should know, as I'm one myself as well. And before you dig out your kin's typical "y-you haven't prolly even played the game, lol!" -cards, I fucking BOUGHT RE2's demake nearly day-1. I wanted to see the familiar places and faces with new coat of paint.
Biggest buyer's remorse. Ever.
Samuel Perry
>Is re2 remake any good? Fuck no. Play the classic, and forget the zoomer shills.
DMC5 was merely "OK", but not this Messiah title all the youngsters claim it to be. Even 4 was way better.
Jose Jones
>i-it's not as bad as in this other bad game, so it's good! Fuck off and die. Demake3 is the biggest travesty of the decade so far. It's pretty damn amazing that Capcom managed to outdo themselves after the sad joke that was DEmake2.
Levi Howard
>Play it on hardcore; it's not different from the old survival horror games. I ONLY ever played it on "hardcore", because fuck removing Ink Ribbons and giving these cancer-era children all those carrots. It is literally NOTHING like the old survival horror games, and if you think they are, you my friend haven't even played a single one of the 1990's and early-00s' classics.
Cooper Miller
Remake 1 already came out in 2002 for Nintendo Gamecube. It's perhaps the most praised game in the series, how can you not know of it?? Remake 2 and 3 are not good nor faithful to the originals in any way. Easily the most over-shilled shit I've fallen victim to in recent memory. Unless yer a pleb, play the games in release order, starting with the first Resi. Pic related.
>>i-it's not as bad as in this other bad game, so it's good! They're literally just fine. Not good, but they're not enjoyment ruining like the QTE's in 6. Also it's better than the original RE3, which was a mess in terms of its design compared to the excellent first two games
Julian Taylor
>Also it's better than the original RE3 Okay, give me your name and address. I will come and murder you, butcher your corpse, and send the bits via FedEx to your parents.
RE3 was THE best of the classic REs. A MAJOR upgrade from RE2, which is easily the most underwhelming of the OG trilogy.
Parker Gonzalez
>Also it's better than the original RE3, which was a mess in terms of its design compared to the excellent first two games Bad bait is bad. Go back to shiII on Leddit.
Jaxon Davis
>So, wait. There was a Resident Evil 1. Then they remade it in 2002, and then in 2015 they made a remaster of that 2002 remake? Why are you asking stuff that could be answered by looking it up on Wikipedia?
Juan Hall
>RE3 was THE best of the classic REs CV tier game design only remembered fondly because of Nemesis doesn't scream "best of the original trilogy" to me
>Bad bait is bad I've played both games unlike you so I feel like I have more of a say in this discussion. Original RE3 is a slog, unlike the first two which are always fun to go back to. It's funny how 3 is the shortest of the original trilogy yet it feels like the longest
Hudson Ward
>Are Resident Evil Remakes good? Yes. All three. 3 is the weakest, 2 is my favorite, and purists will tell you that 1 is the best since it's a 1:1 remake. They're all great. Your preference will vary.
>I have never touched a single Resident Evil game Fuck off, play classic RE2 at least before touching any of the remakes.
Andrew Collins
Sorry kid, I was speedrunning these games long before you came to exist on this planet, and literally replayed it on PS3 last year.
Original RE3 is the best paced, most enjoyable game to play of the originals. Only some seething SEGA DC fags could even try to be contrarian about this.
Jordan Gray
Ignore this post. 2&3remakes are great.
Benjamin Allen
t: faggot. DEmake3 is universally hated, and the rock bottom of the whole series so far. LITERALLY worse than RE6.
Tyler Wood
ignore this post. 2&3remakes are shit.
Nicholas Sanders
It's the best in the series and pretty much the best survival horror game ever
Lucas Thomas
yeah nah just play the remakes
Jordan Brown
>Original RE3 is the best paced I don't think "game I have most nostalgia for" means best paced >DEmake3 is universally hated Lol what? From what I've seen most of the hate is coming from people who haven't even played the game. I don't think it's perfect by any means, but it's solid
Dylan Lewis
Ignore the overly negative shitters. Every mainline Resident Evil game is worth playing, the Revelations and Remake games as well. Not all are great, but every single one is worth playing in my opinion, although 5&6 should be played with a buddy or not at all.
REmake 1 is a genuine masterpiece and the perfect remake.
REmake 2 is a new take on RE2's story that is mostly faithful, but switches up the gameplay, it's still fun.
REmake 3 is a good game, but is more a splinter of RE:2 than a remake of 3, and because of the factors of the original 3 that made it unique are mostly watered down or not present.
Levi Nguyen
The remakes are totally different games zoomie, even the first remake
You have 2 options
>Play the series in release order (recommended) >sample the series with the orginal REmake from 2002 (the most tense game in the series). I recommend getting the 2015 remaster and downloading the AI upscaled textures pack.
otherwise why bother with this serious? There is no point if you're going to skip the best ones
Jaxson Howard
>all this kids claiming de-makes of 2-3 are "good" Seems like shiII force is activated again. The reboot of RE2 would be OK, if they at least fixed the following:
>Make A & B scenarios actually distinct again >Re-implement & expand the Zapping system >Restore & expand all the cut and diminished areas. >More city streets areas, new sections in general. >Restore & re-design the cut enemies. Maybe add some new ones as a bonus. None of this "lol toxic & fast zombie, get it? :^)" reskin shit. >Restore cut weapons &other feats, like the Bow Gun and explosive grenades. >Tyrant can actually be downed for good, giving you bonus items, but he also would properly lurk behind save rooms and shit, like Nemesis did. >Make the visual style less "grey + dark", using the color palette of the OG game + the 2019's concept art as guide. >Do SOMETHING about the fugly SS-reflections, or remove them. >Remove all the floating button indicators and "mission objective" trash. Generally clean out the HUD. >Let players "Examine" the environment again, giving you the character's thoughts on the things. Occasionally might provide you a closer look of the details; the STARS photo for example is now barely even visible in the office in the REm2. >Ditch the auto-balanced difficulty shit. Use more (classic) RE3-style randomized enemy mobs. >Reduce enemy HPs (namely zombies & lickers), and make aiming wobble + guns recoil harder. >Make the crosshair an in-game object (a flashlight, laser sight...). Remove the possibility of moving and attacking at once. >Cut the Ada's hi-tech Bat-vision toy, and the Sherry's Outlast-clone sections. Make them play more like the core game! >Same thing w/ the fucking Crocodile "boss". >More moving space in to the Crane boss fight. >Classic music and SFX as default. Better yet: REMAKE them the same way REmake 1 did RE1's OST. >More screen time and character development for Kendo and Ben. >Completely rewrite the cringy script. >Fix the Goblina-Claire. She's UGLY.
play 5, rev1&2 and the remakes. frankly i enjoyed 6 as well. 7 is a good standalone.
Christopher Barnes
>I don't think "game I have most nostalgia for" means best paced Sorry mate, the one I'm THE most nostalgic is RE2, which I must've played a hundred times. It is literally only still floating in my top-10 games lists because of nostalgia. Both RE1 and RE3 are objectively superior games.
>Lol what? So you don't even lurk.
>it's solid solid shit, yes.
Brody Gonzalez
I mean he could always start with some later entries and go back if he's not sure. You guys get way too autistic about the playing order for a series that has retarded lore and wildly varying mainline entries
Chase Hall
>Only played re1, 3, cv and 4. Jesus christ mate, go play RE2 and REmake1, now! Forget all the others.
Anthony Ward
In RE3R, how do you take a screenshot while playing the PC version??
Andrew Torres
There's like a two dozen ways. Git gud.
Benjamin Fisher
>So you don't even lurk I saw all the shitpost threads from people who haven't played the game. Not sure I could call that "universally hated"
