It's time to discuss the best RPG ever made.
When should I use the stone tablets? I'm playing NOTR, by the way, going to start the expansion soon.

>When should I use the stone tablets?
When you can't train from teachers anymore, LP cost increases the more skill you have so it's best to spend as much LP as possible first because it's cheaper
I guess I should wait until I pass the 60 points mark? I plan on investing only in STR and one-handed skill, by the way
60-90 is fine I think, also make potions that give you permanent STR
I already unlocked the option for learning it (from that alchemist in Khorinis), but 20 LP is a crazy amount, it's literally two entire levels and I don't know when I'll be able to afford such luxury
I'm currently level 10 with 20 LP left to spare, but I'd rather invest half into STR and half into one-handed skill
You can get something like 40 str from making potions if you find all the necessary plants to it's worth it in the long run
Eh, I want to play the game blind (I found four king 's sorrel's for now) instead of following a map and hunting for specific plants, which is why I'm not sure if I'll stick with the potions, but I better decide if I'll do it or not because it will be harder to level up later on
any maps like these for valley and expansion worlds?
Don't you also get +1 STR everytime you eat a certain number of apples?
50 apples
nevermind it's actually 25
Doesn't that work only once?
Pretty sure it works more than once, you jsut have to collect A LOT of apples...
I know that you can increase your STR by praying to Innos, but can I wait until later on in the game to do this? I'm playing blind so I don't know if you return to the Khorinis map in the later chapters.
You can always go to any map any time you want
That's excellent news, then. It's way better to save the praying bonus for later on in the game. +10 STR can save a lot of LPs at that point.
not quite true you cant go back from the last map
When do you go to the last map? In the last chapter of the game?
that place is the last chapter of the game
20 LP are fucking nothing dude. You will level up like crazy when you start killing off the Orcs
Thanks for the tip then, I guess I'll learn the potion recipe then
Even if I don't find any more king's sorrels (since I plan on going through the game blind), I still can make 4 potions which would mean I could get 12 STR
Level your stats just under the breakpoints if you for example have 50 strength (I dunno the exact numbers anymore) you can get 5 str for let's say 10 lp, but when you take the 5 str at 49 you will only pay about 5 lp.
don't learn it yet. You should level up your 1-handed skill und strength first
level strength up to 90 then start reading stone tablets, eating apples and making STR potions
So since I get easy level ups later on because of orc killing, I can afford to spend 20 LP on learning how to make STR potions later? Should I spend my 20 LP increasing my one-handed skill, then (it's currently at 40%)?
I learned too late about that to use it at the first breakpoint (at 3), but I'll keep that in mind for the next one (at 60)
yes, at the end of the game you should be level 40-50
you can increase your one-handed skill by 41 for free
Yes, you dont need to learn any of that shit now. If u want to power play level your stats 1 point under next tier so you pay less lps for training overall, ie. onehander from 29->34 costs 5lp while 30->35 is 10lp.
>you can increase your one-handed skill by 41 for free
What?
I'm at 43 STR already, but because I wear a ring and a belt that both increase my STR (8 in total)
>+5% from Lutero's book
>+2% from talking to Wulfgar at 5 o'clock
>+24% from stone tablets
>+10% from the best 1h sword
Oh, that's what you meant
I already got the Wulfram bonus and I have a few stone tablets on me, but I'll wait until I get one-handed over 60% to use them
>Thanks for the tip then, I guess I'll learn the potion recipe then
no problemo. you shouldnt worry too much about the LP tough. On my first playthrough I made many mistakes and still beat the Game. It shouldnt be a problem at all.
Have fun with the Game!
>no problemo. you shouldnt worry too much about the LP tough. On my first playthrough I made many mistakes and still beat the Game. It shouldnt be a problem at all.
That's a relief
>Have fun with the Game!
Thanks. I'm enjoying it very much, it basically does everything better than Gothic 1, except that oppressive atmosphere (its closed-off colony can't be beat).
The only complaint I have with the game is how some sidequests aren't adapted to out of order approaches, and by this I mean that you can do some sidequests by accident (while exploring the overworld), and the NPC dialogue doesn't change or even the sidequest itself gets bugged The worst example is the mercenary that stole the swampweed and sold it at Khorinis - I was able to report him to the mercenary guy from whom he stole swampweed before I even had the swampweed package sidequest in my log (I didn't even know about the package at the time and was confused when the dialogue option for it popped up while talking to the mercenary guy ).
Gothic 2 Patching guide with graphics mods
Download this and install the patches in the correct order (read the installation order text file). You have to install these for the Steam or the GoG version or else the game won't run properly.
mega.nz
Then download this and extract everything to the "system" folder in your Gothic 2 folder
gothic-dx11.de
This makes the graphics a lot better, adds new shaders, increases the draw distance etc + fixes performance issues.

Additional Graphics mods (choose ONE of the two). Both of these work with the DX11 mod above. Both of these are installed by simply dropping the .vdf file into your "Data" folder (with other .vdf files in it)
Vurt's Graphics Overhaul:
This is the most vanilla-friendly graphics mod. It mostly only improves the textures/meshes.
nexusmods.com
L'hiver Vanilla Edition (Not recommended for first playthrough):
Changes the graphics + changes and expands the map. Edits certain locations and models, adds new buildings, new objects. It offers the best graphics imo but the downside is that it adds too many unnecessary trees in some locations.

Here are screenshots comparing the two mods:

If the in-game videos are very small go to the Gothic.ini file in the "system" folder and make these two lines have these values:
zVidResFullscreenX=640
zVidResFullscreenY=360
huh, weird, I never got that swampweed bug. Could you at least finish the quest?
>huh, weird, I never got that swampweed bug
Maybe you didn't do the mercenary quest before finish the swampweed package quest in Khorinis? Although there's a way higher chance that someone will stumble upon the mercenary quest first (since he just needs to walk to the mercenary camp and talk to the guy) rather than the swampweed package (which requires you to join the militia and finish the farmer sidequest, and you already know how long it takes to be able to join the militia, since you need to acquire status by doing sidequests and becoming an apprentice)
>Could you at least finish the quest?
Yeah, and I even managed to finish that one sidequest in which you have to dig out the treasures for the eyepatch guy (I explored the overworld before getting the quest from him so I picked up all items for myself (I took the gold and sold the rest of the stuff that I dug out), and after doing the sidequest for him one of the treasures didn't spawn (the gold chalice), so I thought I won't be able to finish the quest without backtracking to Khorinis and buying a chalice from one of the merchants). Still, I wish this stuff wasn't there, it really takes me out of the game (luckily, only three sidequests were like that for now - the swampweed questline, the treasure digging and that one questline with someone from Khorinis selling the weapons to bandits).
don't forget to learn 5 at 59 or 89 if you want to go till 90.
You might have the urge to use them earlier and I would advise to do so since the endgame stats don't really matter that much if you learned to 90 or stopped at 64, but getting enough LP to 90 can feel like a chore.
I recommend for STR to stop at 66 and get as many boosting abilities as possible to be able to use one of the best STR weapons by chapter 2.
t. have well over 500 hrs in Gothic 2
yeah it is known to be buggy sometimes. Wasnt the chest with the chalice in the Gobo Cave? Early in the Game I absolutely had no chance of fucking with those midgets, so I always stumbled across "the eye-patch dude" beforehand
You will know, it's pretty clear that it's gonna be the final journey.
>but getting enough LP to 90 can feel like a chore
Yeah, I'll probably use it between the 60 and 70 mark
>I recommend for STR to stop at 66 and get as many boosting abilities as possible to be able to use one of the best STR weapons by chapter 2
>by chapter 2
Is the NOTR expansion area really going to level me up so much that I'll be able to go to 66 before chapter 2?
I already finished most of the sidequests in the Khorinis map with the exception of the missing people and a few others
>Wasnt the chest with the chalice in the Gobo Cave
If you mean that cave near the tavern, then no, since you dig out gold from there
>Early in the Game I absolutely had no chance of fucking with those midgets, so I always stumbled across "the eye-patch dude" beforehand
I save often (almost after every enemy I beat), and I isolated the goblins and managed to clear the cave with patience.
In any case, even if the cave is hard to clear, the other spots for digging are out in the open and if you explore the farms you'll stumble upon them.
Good thread, good on you gothicbros for helping OP
Has anyone in here played Legend of Grimrock 2?
at least there are always a few good threads open on this board
I'm glad there's still patrician people here
Yas Forums became a place where people unironically discuss halo, cod, witcher etc.
I never see anyone but me mention this about Gothic 2: there is a bug where if you use a transform scroll to turn into a dragon or w/e and you level up while transformed you don't get the correct amount of HP gain when you go back to normal. So don't level up while transformed.
peak graphics
>there is a bug where if you use a transform scroll to turn into a dragon or w/e and you level up while transformed you don't get the correct amount of HP gain when you go back to normal. So don't level up while transformed.
I saw this mentioned in some thread on some forum. Thanks for mentioning it here anyways.
I remember steamrolling all of khorinis as a dragon snapper, getting like 6 level ups and investing the points into sick magic from the monastery. Who needs HP anyway
>mfw Gaan sends some faggot in leather armor after me
Will this game run on an absolute potato? I like old RPGs
>Gothic 2
>best
>gothic 1 exists
what?
personally, I don't think either is even just great, not talking about best. But anyway, Gothic 1 is way better than 2.
>It's time to discuss the best RPG ever made.
Until Final Fantasy VII Remake
>*ice blocks you*
snort in hell, nigger snapper
basically G2NOTR>G1>G2
bit you're entitled to your own opinion, unless you think Gothic isn't the best RPG ever made, then, we have a problem.
Do King sorel and stat +1 plants respawn in new chapters? Or only at some vendors?
No, vendors will get some additional stock, but there's no respawning plants I can think of.
time-travel back to your shitty japanese rollercoaster thread, boy
No, some vendors do restock however, like Costantino and Sagitta
I'm not really sure, but you'll have to try for yourself and see, it runs fine on potatos without mods
>G1>G2
Can you elaborate on this? Why is vanilla Gothic 2 worse than Gothic 1?
Gothic 1 is best, Gothic 2 relies on minmaxing to be tolerable instead of a balanced experience
Not that fag but G1 is definitely more atmospheric, but not really a better game.
amazing that this whole thread is one mentally ill person who has been posting about gothic 2 for years. he literally makes threads about how modern rpgs suck compared to gothic 2 and even uses the same images over and over again
I haven't played non-notr G2. But, notr campaign is for sure the best part of it.
If dragons didn't suck(or weren't repeated 4 times) and plot didn't end in a shitty sequelbait I would probably agree with you.
>unless you think Gothic isn't the best RPG ever made, then, we have a problem.
Welp, if Fallout 2, Baldurs Gate 1/2, Tyranny and FNV didn't exist I would probably agree with you.
Well, not that guy you were responding too, but atmosphere and character are literally the best gothic's asset, so for me that makes it better.
>but G1 is definitely more atmospheric
No one denied this, but his ratings were supposed to be overall and not related to atmosphere, so I'm guessing he thinks 1 is better than vanilla 2 not only in the atmosphere aspect (he also ranked NOTR above 1, and I doubt the atmosphere in the expansion area is better than the one in 1)
