I hate how the Galaxy games are held in low regard on Yas Forums just because you can't do autistic backwards long jump glitches to make the game shit itself and skip to the end. These games have way better level design than any of the sandbox Mario games.
I hate how the Galaxy games are held in low regard on Yas Forums just because you can't do autistic backwards long jump...
dont worry. theyre old enough to be considered "retro" now by zoomies so theyre due to get a ton of nostalgia goggles love from retards. just like the guys who now pretend twilight princess was good.
Cringe. Don't post in my thread if your brain is full of nothing but buzzwords, paranoia and tribalism.
I hate open mario like Sunshine and Odyssey so much. 64 nailed the mix between open sandbox and actual level and somehow they always fuck it up more with every new one.
Level-based mario like galaxy and 3D world are so on much better.
I love these games, they're my favorite 3d mario games.
Wish they'd remaster Sunshine. That was the last Mario game that I really enjoyed.
Galaxy 1 has awful level design and is completely confused as to whether it wants to be a sandbox game or a linear platformer. Galaxy 2 has great level design and commits to the linear platformer approach. Galaxy 2 is superior in every way and learned from the mistakes of its predecessor.
kys
The first one was very good the second one reused way too much shit from the first one.
I'll be the contrarian here: I liked SMG1 much more because it felt cohesive in its athmosphere and the flat surfaces feel much more out of place than the planetoids in 1, it also helps 1 had Rosalina and the Astral Observatory which was peak Mario SOUL
i love the mario galaxy games, granted it took me a while to enjoy galaxy 2 but once it kicked in i rolled the game in a few days
now odyssey, i genuinely can't stand it. i played with my wife because i couldn't enjoy it alone after the 3rd world. had my niece play it, had my brother play it. it's not even a fun game to watch being played..
genuinely confused nintendo is giving this game a second run, but ehh im probably in the minority.
It's not that it's not riddled with glitches & exploits, it's just that its a slow, floaty game with a momentum halting spin as its standout added movement option. It is pretty well designed throughout the whole adventure & has a bunch of other things going for it ( Best Power-Up implementation in 3D Mario, Best & most fun swimming controls in 3D Mario, a neat story in Galaxy 1, etc ) but its not as satisfying as it could have been, and its low skill ceiling hampers its replayability.
Still a 8/10 game to me at worst.
Mario Galaxy kinda sucks ape anus tho even the second one. Sunshine is peak comfy-kino and I've been waiting for a remaster of that for years now.
galaxy 2 is 3D world but with more atmosphere which i like.
galaxy's level design isn't as good as galaxy 2
i played 2 before 1 and this might be why i feel the same way, but i just couldnt really get into 1 ||it doesnt help i dont like rosalina|| and i really liked the green stars, even some of the literal "you get one chance and if you miss you die" stars
Hard agree. SMG 1 & 2 are fucking masterpiece platformers.
Movement is by far the most important part of any platformer game, and SMG has shit movement. Cope.
I’m just not a fan of the way Mario controls and the physics. It feels like you’re wading through mud for the entire game, and you don’t have FLUDD to make Mario’s movement feel nicer like in Sunshine.
Depends on what you want. 3D Mario initially made its name with sandbox style level design which is part of why its dick gets sucked despite it being a departure for Mario. That said, so was going 3D in the first place and I certainly can't fault Nintendo for looking the opportunity in the eye with 64 and Sunshine. Having said all that, I do prefer the more linear/small open structure design of Galaxy, though I can't think of much of a reason for the moveset to be dumbed down beside the Wiimote being what it was. But yeah, it's all compromises and differing tastes, sandboxfags like the ones they like and linearfags like the ones they like.
that's the first I've heard of it. no reason to remove the mid air leap forward though. and I hate needing to waggle to spin. other than that they're good. 1 is objectively better than 2 though.
> great visuals for the time
> great soundtrack
> memorable levels
> tons of unique mechanics
> actually uses the wii remote well
both galaxies are amazing and the peak of mario
If those are your personal values then it stands to reason. That said, Galaxy only has lacking movement relative to other 3D Marios, it's still well above average compared to the competition at large and even has a leg up on the others with vertical movement due to the spin.
the controls are fucking horrible
2's got better level variety and difficulty curve while 1's mostly just better in aesthetic ways like having a better hub and Rosalina's side story. 2 is definitely the better overall video game but 1 has more "soul", if you will.
Waggle to spin jump was shit and kills your wrist because of how often you have to do it.
Galaxy is the most "hypnotic experience" I've ever had with a videogame, the orchestral mysic, the ethereal graphics and the pace of the gameplay all work together to keep you in a state of awe in trance
>Considering Yas Forumsermins opinion in the first place
It's your fault, retard.
Not really. Crash in every game after 1, Rayman in 2 and 3, and Sonic in every game before Unleashed feel a lot nicer and more agile to control than Galaxy Mario.
>2's got better level variety and difficulty curve
not really. 2 scraps many concepts and ideas that were present in 1, while feeling like it's composed mostly of cutting room floor scraps, which it was. the powerups were the worst the series has seen. (cloud mario is so uninspired)
also, fuck yoshi. just fuck him straight in the earhole.
I've beaten both Galaxies to completion twice and my wrists are fine. Mind you, I also played games like Metroid Prime Hunters and Kid Icarus Uprising which require wrists that aren't made of paper.
They're my favorite SM games and I consider them both as being 1 singular game, 2 was an expansion and I normally would be pissed for paying 60 shekels for it but I loved 1 too much and had a great time with it as well.
Granted I still haven't played Odyssey.
that's only if you're retarded and wiggle it in a way that hurts your wrist
It's floatier than other games. But saying it's held in low regard on Yas Forums is fucking retarded.
What is it with Nintendo games considered "hated" even though they're just not considered perfect or the best?
Galaxy games are great even though they might be in the lower end of msot personal rating/preferences.
will I be able to play the switch port without motion controls? If so I will buy, otherwise this game can rot
I liked the Galaxy games but doing shit in unintended ways, which you describe as "autistic" is half the fun in 3D Mario games and 3D platformers in general.
every mario game (except world) has bad controls. people refuse to acknowledge this, but it's true. they're objectively bad. I don't care how many months miyamoto locked himself in a room to "perfect" 64's controls. they suck. sorry, shiggy.
How out of shape are you that a small waggle hurts you
compared to what? 64 has aged like cottage cheese, sunshine was never good, and odyssey is too easy and short.
>64 has aged like cottage cheese
In what way? It's still a pretty good game
Sunshine is good just not as good as 64. It improved the controls but basically did nothing with them properly.
Odyssey could've been a lot better too
I don't think I agree with any of that. Crash and Rayman still don't have movesets as versatile as Galaxy Mario, even with Crash 3's powerups which slowed Crash down as much as they added to his movement. Spin glide/helicopter are pretty dope but they still lack options like long jumps, triple jumps, wall kicks and back/side flips, all of which are still in Galaxy. As for Sonic, say what you will about 2D Sonic but comparing 2D to 3D means nothing, the Genesis games are butting heads with games like SMB3 and World, not Galaxy. What is butting heads with Galaxy is the Sonic Adventure games and I'm sorry but no. I don't think Sega has perfected the homing attack to this day, that shit still feels glitchy. Sonic in 3D is just something Sega hasn't quite pinned down.
They aren't bad, they just account for momentum in ways other video games don't, which in turn allows Mario a very wide level of fine control.
that might be an actual thing, because I also played Galaxy 2 before 1 and the level design, enemy difficulty and the whole HUD is just so much better. Storywise G1 is better than 2 though, but not that it really matters
Odyssey is a travesty. Cant really understand why people praise it so fucking much
>and kills your wrist
>gives fantastic introduction to Rosalina in a way no other Mario game did
>later games shit on it and make her Peaach 3.0
I miss Rosalina's early depiction so much
>Odyssey is a travesty. Cant really understand why people praise it so fucking much
because despite being bad its still better than 64 and sunshine
2 kept the bulk of 1's ideas intact, even some that should've stayed dead - you shit on Cloud Mario but I think we all would love to forget Spring Mario. It even turned green stars, which were barely a thing in 1, into a full blown second quest style thing. And Yoshi, some parts I wasn't so crazy about like the chili pepper powerup but the little guy was inoffensive for the most part.
Odyssey isn't my favorite but I liked it about as much as 64. Dunno what it is that makes it so divisive for people, though for what it's worth I did shelve it after beating Darker Side and never went back to it. I kinda felt like I was playing Banjo-Kazooie with 1000 jiggies instead of 100, but you only needed half of that to see the end.
Cloud Mario is the best powerup in the series
>there are people who unironically believe this
The only real problems I have with Odyssey are the lack of difficulty and small amount of levels, but Mario controls like a dream and (most of) the levels are packed with stuff to do.
this is why I think Odyssey 2 has the potential to be the best 3D Mario game of all time.
Just raise the difficulty and add lots of new leves.
They're genuinely shit 3D Mario games
>Forced waggle for spin jump
>Mario controls terribly in mid-air
>Level design in linear and uninteresting - most act selects are just level, level but you go a bit further, level but you go further than that, find the star bit luma
It's only redeeming factor is the music.
>> memorable levels
Quite literally the only Galaxy 1/2 levels I remember vividly is the beach bowl galaxy and that neat one in two that had you swimming through a cave that ends with you emerging with the sunlight in your eyes.
On the other hand I remember every aspect of pretty much every other Mario game.
I think the biggest issue with Odyssey is that the amount of content isn’t distributed very well. I’d be fine with the amount of levels there are if they were all as big and dense as New Donk City, but most of them are much smaller. Either increase the size, or make many more. Seeing more unique levels like Metro, Lost and Ruined Kingdoms would be neat, too.
>Level design in linear and uninteresting
i mean that's the point
Galaxy 1, 2 and 3D World are linear 3D Marios
64, Sunshine and Odyssey are sandbox 3D Marios.
My big problem with Galaxy 1 is a case of a confused identity. The star-collecting missions are more like linear 2D Mario obstacle courses than 64/Sunshine-style sandboxes, but the game still presents itself as if it was a continuation of those two games' style of gameplay, with you revisiting the same level for multiple missions and inevitably treading the same route a lot of the time. It's repetitive and disingenous.
Galaxy 2 is a lot better simply because it makes far less pretenses to be what it isn't. You get a level select, you beat one level, and you move on, and maybe later you unlock a version of that level with a challenge modifier like a timer or 1HP.
It's also nice that Galaxy 2 being the 'level pack expansion' that it is, ramps up the difficulty just a bit. Galaxy 1 is easy shit.
Galaxy 1 is amazing
Galaxy 2 is a soulless level pack
I really like big 3d worlds to explore as opposed to 5 min levels.
>big 3d worlds to explore
Why do you expect them from Galaxy?
64/Sunshine/Odyssey are the Sandboxes 3D Mario not Galaxy1/2/World.
>Galaxy 1 is amazing
>Galaxy 2 is a soulless level pack
Yep
i hope the remastered rumour is true.
it'd be nice to have all these games on one system. with a higher resolution.
