When did you grow out of your baseless hatred for Doom 3, Yas Forums? >best atmosphere in the series >good world building with the audio/text logs >beautiful industrial-labyrinthine aesthetic (is there an actual name for this? love the hard plated rooms, the massive machinery and cramped corridors with exposed wiring that stretch out seemingly forever) >best most aesthetic hell levels in the series hands down >some of the best demon designs in the series >actual graphics with lighting that still holds up >slow but tense enemy encounters >masterfully crafted sound design, can pinpoint enemies through subtle noises and hisses if you're good enough
Honestly, the only negative I can think of is the weapon sounds. People falsely believe that the gunplay is bad/boring but all you have to do is pop in an audio overhaul mod and blasting imps away with the shotgun starts feeling incredible.
>Baseless Doom 3 will always be slow, unsatisfying, corridor shooter. >You're just saying that because you're a Nu-Doom baby! Nu-Doom sucks as well for completely different reasons.
the game barely qualifies as a FPS. The demons in doom 3 are some of the most non-threatening, slow, laidback enemies I've ever seen in a game
Aaron Martinez
Doom 3 has the best representation of Hell in any media.
The game is pretty good, though it's the least Doom of all Doom games
Jacob Harris
I never actually played Doom 3,my pc broke before I could. It's seems fun, should I get it on switch it's 10 dollars?
Gabriel Allen
I never disliked it because I don't let internet bandwagons tell me what to think. I tried it when it came out and ended up liking it without reading anything online about it. Only recently did I find out that there was such a huge hate bandwagon for it, probably redditors so who gives a shit
Julian Cooper
I used to like it, but after finally playing Doom 2016 recently, I see how unfun the slow tight corridor gameplay truly was. I still like the visual/audio design of it though.
Caleb Jackson
It deserves all the shit it gets... until you get to Hell, then it gets good. Shotgun being a piece of shit is still a problem though.
Sebastian Johnson
This is the objective ranking.
Chase Young
I never had any particular disdain for it. In fact I thought it was a unique and original direction for the series to take, considering the source material.
Jayden Sanchez
How so? Its a fairly generic representation.
Wyatt Turner
never hated doom 3 i just hated the BFG edition
Liam Diaz
I never disliked it, probably my least favorite Doom game though I will give it the best Doom start up theme though, blow away the new Dooms in that regard
Justin Walker
Its an awful shooter and a bad horror game
Good ambience, good art design, good graphics. Horror elements were limited to things surprising you on the other side of doors. Because of this, the game was trivially easy as a shooter because they had to make those surprise attacks barely do damage.
Thomas Wright
Never hated it, I was actually surprised when I heard most of Yas Forums sees at as a bad Doom.
I hate Doom 3 because I played it just two months ago, its a shit game.
Ryan Morgan
Just from the fact that you even hated it in the first place shows you’re a bandwagoner and your opinions are as superfluous as the wind.
Fuck off back to whatever e-celeb thread you came from.
Andrew Sanders
t.filtered in the third level
Michael Johnson
>I was actually surprised when I heard most of Yas Forums sees at as a bad Doom. People have been shit talking it since the day it came out. This isn't exactly a new Yas Forums opinion.
Joshua Barnes
So is this the hot new meme pretending Doom 3 is an unappreciated masterpiece?. Doom 3 was never a bad game it's just the worst game in the Doom franchise.
Ryan Howard
>monster closets >so dark
Samuel Diaz
no one said it was a masterpeice it has its problems but its WAY overhated
Jack Bennett
i was one of a few that has praised the damn thing through and through. It's literally Doom 1 remastered + ambient score of Doom 64.
Thomas Ward
It just doesn't play very well. In any other Doom game i can feel tangible improvements over how i approach levels and how much better i do during levels/fights. Also use of movement and causing in fighting etc. Doom 3 has in fighting but you almost never see it and its pointless with such low enemy counts.
I like what Doom 3 did well but ultimately all 3 times i played through it i felt like i was doing the exact same shit in the exact same way and don't care for soul cube nightmare.
Matthew Miller
I finished it, its not a good shooter. The levels are so small yet enemies do single digit damage in almost all cases, which is really trivial considering 90% of the enemies in this game are either imps, maggots or z-sec.
In the few areas of the game where you actually get room to move, you really get to see how stupidly easy the game is when you can actually play it like doom.
Brody Butler
even mentioning doom64 proves he is a underage and braindead
Chase Johnson
>It's literally Doom 1 remastered + ambient score of Doom 64. This is objectively untrue
I think it's basically as good as Half life 2, which is a very similar FPS which had the same high concept goal of replacing good shooting with tedium. Also audiologs always suck, and the encounter design is a fucking joke, the game continues to try to surprise you with imps extremely late in the game, and never uses any complex mixups
>I think it's basically as good as Half life 2, which is a very similar FPS Half life 2 had gimmicks for every other level and varied environments. Doom 3's last level plays the exact same as its second level except you shoot cacodemons more often.
Thomas Barnes
first good Doom game.
Ian Hughes
I always thought it was pretty good, but I'm a sucker for worldbuilding and atmosphere. The game isn't too difficult, ironically the zombie soldiers are the toughest enemy in the game.
Brody Hill
the shotgun fucking sucks im never getting over that
David Miller
> but I'm a sucker for worldbuilding and atmosphere The best level in doom 3 featured zero demons.
Its absolutely unnecessary the moment you get the assault rifle too
it absolutely is - sham ethat I have to explain it to a contrarian zoomer who has never had first hand experience with D1 back in the day
>first person immersive perspective to dunk players head first into space station infested with hellspawn >slow as molasses >dark as shit >every encounter is sphincter-clenching pain in the ass, especially w/ kb only >secrets all around
On top of it, top-notch sound effects and ambient industrial noises. Yes, they nerfed shotty, but only in service of gameplay, so that you HAD to take the risk of closing in on your enemies at point-blank range to one-shot them (and you have less than a fraction of a second to do the job, before imps start tearing your face off)
Better yet, the level design was not only geographically lore-friendly, but also chock-full of environmental setpieces for you to navigate through it without the pace/immersion-breaking map.
Evan Perez
I never hated it. Not my favourite game either.
Jaxson Flores
>implying I ever hated it I like good video games, I don't let bias and preconceived notions dictate my ability to respond to changing conditions. Plus it's not like I can't go back and keep playing Doom 2. Any other way of thinking is pure retardation.
Evan Adams
But there are no cacodemons in Doom 3's last level!
Ryder Gutierrez
>top of the line rendering >HURRRRRRR DURRRRRR TECH DEMO FAGGET
but Far Cry >TECH DEMO but Half-L. >TEEEEECH DEMOOOO what about Quake, Doom and Tresp... >TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD...
doom 3 was the breaking point where id software stopped doing conventional graphics advanced in software and instead just started making meme engines
>dude what if we render the scene several times with different light sources >dude megatextures lmao
Lincoln Morris
>doom 1 >slow as molasses >dark as shit no
Doom 3 >every encounter is sphincter-clenching pain in the ass no
>Yes, they nerfed shotty, but only in service of gameplay, so that you HAD to take the risk of closing in on your enemies at point-blank range to one-shot them Or you just shoot them with your assault rifle because they're slow as fuck outside their scripted jump scares.
If the only argument you have for Doom 3 being Doom 1 is that the maps make no sense, then its a stupid comparison.
Carson Turner
retard contrarians
Carson Thomas
>flashlight weapon or body flashlight? Body light with infinite battery. BFGs body flashlight that only lasted 20 seconds but refilled in 3 was stupid.
>>doom 1 >>slow as molasses >>dark as shit >no yes, you contrarian zoom-zoom
>Or you just shoot them with your assault rifle because they're slow as fuck outside their scripted jump scares. enjoy being dead on nightmare
Joshua Fisher
Flashlight weapon gives the intended experience since certain encounters were made with it in mind, but they aren't that different to normal encounters.
Angel Garcia
God Doom 3's mobs are so fucking bland it hurts
Owen Fisher
>franchise reboot >instead of expanding the original concept it just limits it to appeal to the "muh realism" crowd I absolutely despise it. Tomb Raider did the same. It's not a bad game but this practice just makes me angry.
Samuel Cooper
In what way was Doom 1 slow? Being slow would kill you in certain rooms with Shotgunners and the Cyberdemon fight if you couldn't circle strafe properly.
the only run i did was with the flashlight weapon, but it seemed way way stronger than it should have been for melee
Josiah Edwards
its probably the biggest pleb filter in gaming history
Tyler Parker
>falsely believe that the gunplay is bad >all you have to do is pop in an audio overhaul mod I can't even begin to express how stupid you are. I just finished a replay of DOOM 3 last week, and my biggest complaint with the game is the gunplay. Every weapon looks, feels, and sounds underwhelming. I don't even hate the level designs, and I think it's as enjoyable to find secrets as it was in the original DOOM, but combat is an absolute joke. Fights are never stressful, just annoying. Somebody tell me if Resurrection of Evil is worth playing. I planned to do it after just finishing the base game, but I had had enough of it by the time the Cyberdemon went down. I've never played it before.
I never hated it, I just recognized that it wasn't particularly good.
Lucas James
>yes, you contrarian zoom-zoom Its literally not. You have faster ground speed in doom 1 than you do in doom 2016, more than quadruple doom 3s default speed and double its sprint speed. You can also see just fine, its not like doom 3 in the slightest.
>enjoy being dead on nightmare You absolutely never use the shotgun on nightmare.
Leo Lee
The only real value was the lighting and you know it. Fucking F.E.A.R. was more fun to play than doom 3
>pleb filter It's just a subpar Half-Life 1 clone with a forced flashlight gimmick.
Ian Fisher
filtered
Elijah Harris
Naturally, since F.E.A.R. is a fantastic game.
Blake Collins
It's the only one of the original four I haven't played. I have no opinions on it whatsoever
Kevin Baker
>Fucking F.E.A.R. was more fun to play than doom 3 Fear had great gameplay it was just repetitive if you didn't go out of your way to do silly shit like kick kills.
