Honestly, yes. That whole era was full of people unafraid to be genuine and express themselves through fiction. They weren't afraid of people calling them out for being "edgy," they just made what they wanted to make. It says a lot that the Sonic franchise now has turned into self-referential crap that pulls a "But we're IRONICALLY bad now, guys!" schtick. Bring back sincerity.
