What's the best way to play this game in 2020? The original version on a PS2, the remaster on PS3, emulating one of the two, or the remake on PS4?

Sadly, I own this game on PS2, PS3 and PS4. I regret nothing. The PS4 version is great and free on PS Plus right now.

This. I actually just let the intro film play, my brain already knew from the music what to expect with the hawk flying through the canyon, but I was blown away by the visuals.

I was never able to complete my PS2 version as the framerate would drop and I would get stuck riding to the 4th colossus.

The PS2 and PS4 versions play identical. Like it's even the same code for the most part. Just pick which version you think looks better. Nostalgia autists will flood here and spam images about how the dust clouds aren't identical and other petty shit but just pick whichever one appeals to you more. Also go play Ico (PS2) and The Last Guardian (PS4) as well.

I got used to the laggy PS2 version when it came out, so the PS3 version feels weird. It is the same game though so whichever you prefer. How much of that was developers intention is debateable.

Remember though that the PS4 version is indeed a remake, as in a brand new game. Its Goldeneye Wii vs Goldeneye N64, its Resident Evil 2 2019 vs Resident Evil 1998. Entirely separate games that should be treated as such.

Attached: Goldeneye wii.jpg (737x1035, 102.38K)

Either the PS2 or PS3 version. PS4 lost a lot of details, not just the "fog" but Wander's animations.

I got the PS2(the cardboard) for like 15 and the PS3 for 20. Been ignoring the Ps4 version, but since they added on plus I will give it a try

I liked the online in goldeneye wii.

im replaying it at 2k with 30 fps on the rpcs3.
i tried the pcsx2 version but for some reason it's laggy and full of glitches.

>for some reason
That's how it originally plays on ps2. frame drops to like 5fps.

I platinumd the PS4 version and I think it's one of the greatest games of all time. There's also a really cool little item to get if you're autistic enough to do the scavenger hunt

If you're a trophy whore get the PS3 version, the game has bugs and certain trophies can glitch out. I got the Platinum for both PS3 and PS4. The PS4 version is straight up gorgeous, Bluepoint did such a great job on PS4.

Any version is an overrated boring piece of shit

>lole, that E D G E

Yeah it was pretty fun I actually like the game alot even Craigbond.

Emulating PS2. PS4 is pretty soulless.

Couch multiplayer was so fun in that game. Good times.

The remake on ps4 is fucking beautiful but some would argue it's "complete and utter dogshit you would hate it" because Wanderer's head doesn't track colossi when he's fighting them anymore.

Attached: SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS_20180615225720.jpg (1920x1080, 759.48K)

>I platinumd the PS4 version
I'm close to it. I even got the new sword in the Ps4 version and did all the time trials, but I just fucking HATE speedrunning and although I know I can do it, I really do not want to speedrun Shadow of the Colossus.
It's like the antithesis of the game. Same with why I don't have a platinum in Nier: Gestalt.

Attached: SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS_20180526230248.jpg (1920x1080, 576.76K)

PS2 version has a really shit framerate that was low even for the time. PS4 version is soulless. Go for the remaster.

PS4 is the definitive version

Emulating it is the way to go. The remaster isn't perfect. Well, emulation isn't either but I think it's better.

>because Wanderer's head doesn't track colossi when he's fighting them anymore.
The hell are you talking about? It's because Wander's animations are terrible. There's still a button to look at them.

Attached: volumetric fog lol.jpg (2465x1081, 404.49K)

Hey anons! What do you mean when you say the PS4 version is "soulless"?

On a PS2 via HDD.

>shilling

It's low effort. Wander's animations are worse, the sound effects are worse, the music is worse, and somehow the lighting is worse too.

Attached: Particles.webm (1176x338, 2.88M)

>Asking after there were a fuckton of threads with pretty much the same conclusions

Attached: 1571844432170.jpg (1920x1088, 199.79K)

I dunno. I've asked them to explain but all they say is his animations suck but after switching back and forth between the one I have on ps2 to the ps4 version I can't see much of a difference. He's still floppy and lively.
Also PS4 version has more content if you want it, and you're able to adjust the lighting at will from various different modes and can fiddle with the saturation to get the game to look how you want it to.

Attached: SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS_20200323233641.png (1920x1080, 2.24M)

PS3 version first time then PS4 version replay

They don't have PS4s so its soulless

>and somehow the lighting is worse too.
Did you even play the ps4 version? You can play with the lighting all you want. Make it look like the ps2 version if you want to.

Reminder that "soulless" is a stupid meme and you should ignore anyone who uses it as a criticism.
If they can't explain themselves, don't trust them.

Attached: SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS_20180523224200.jpg (1920x1080, 305.64K)

Man, these comparative webms are hilarious how big difference they have.

PS2 version
The ps4 remake messes with the art style
The ps3 remaster has fucked up physics

Wander looks like an ugly jew in the remake

Yes and you're talking about filters, not lighting. You can't make it look like the PS2 version.

Attached: 1540152950318.png (1403x738, 499.89K)

Okay so we have the DMC1 autist.
The "dodge offset is the main mechanic in bayonetta not witch time" autist.
And the "ps4 remake is SOULLESS" autist.

What is it about Yas Forums that attracts borderline psychopaths who have to shit up every single thread about games they APPARENTLY like?

I guess something like that can be easily lost to the layman, which is why it's extremely easy for people to be wowed at first sight by something just on the basis of it ''having details'', but it's no lie that art and asset production for games in recent years has been dramatically systemized, especially from western developers. It's a deep rabbit hole of sameyness and it's being actively promoted throughout the industry, and taught to thousands naive randos who think having an Artstation portfolio and using buzzwords to explain their generic creations makes you into a quality artist.

And yes, ''just fucking rocks'' are also a fraction of that problem. These types of typical modern games mostly use very similar visual solutions, techniques, generic ''tried'' design and rely solely on following a few tutorials to get the job done, they can operate only at the most basic techie level and lack an eye and understanding for visual consistency, deliberate aesthetic choices, composition, animation, tone etc.

This SotC remake is a perfect case study for all that, especially when comparing it to the original ( or TLG for that matter).
People easily jump on the ''it's just the hardware'' excuse for things that are conscious deliberate changes done all across the board, and deliberate changes can be objectively observed and compared.
Do you think people would remember the original SotC nearly as much if it didn't stand out so much visually in the first place?
If it looked like a generic PS2 game, people simply wouldn't know any better, but we all know it didn't look like that, did it now?
It deserved it's status as a unique title and vision, and to simply brush all the effort put into it as ''technical limitation'' 10 years later just shows how ill-informed and easily swayed the gaming community is, so do not be surprised why games are not taken seriously as an art form. This remake will age extremely poorly with its visual aesthetic.

Attached: Sdap3lq.jpg (1574x1092, 361.9K)

We literally cannot have good shadow of the colossus threads anymore because of this remake hating faggot.

Attached: sad bunnie.jpg (480x480, 40.82K)

we also have resetera shit eaters like yourself who can't use their own eyes and get mad when people point out differences in video games.

>The "dodge offset is the main mechanic in bayonetta not witch time" autist.
what, it literally is? that's why WT isn't there in NSIC now that you've had time to learn to use offset

>if you don't enjoy the game the way I do you're from a different website!
Go away you autistic piece of garbage.

>apologist deflection 101

Not anymore, the remake now exists with a bunch of enablers of it and that triggers the opposite. Which one is shittier? Both

Alright but I still think the ps4 version is beautiful and I like replaying it more than my ps2 copy.

the point is that you're the problem.

That's fine, but it's measurably worse.

Attached: L92yGkJ.png (1592x516, 886.52K)

>bunch of enablers
The "enablers" just want to post screenshots and discuss the game but anytime it becomes apparent they play the remake you get;
>playing the remake
>you didn't play the game as it was intended to be played
>go back to resetera/reddit because you didn't play it the way I want you to
and a slew of other inane faggotry.

Yeah we get it, he likes Wander's animations better in the ps2/3 versions and his face is slightly less narrow in the remake. To go through all this effort to shit up entire threads and post the same fucking comparison images over and over is "Barneyfag" territory.
People like this need to be shitposted off the board.

It's measurably better in all ways

>The "enablers" just want to post screenshots and discuss the game but anytime it becomes apparent they play the remake you get;
The enablers just want to say it's anything beyond serviceable and demonize everything in their path. Enjoy your SotC threads with those faggots around from now on.

Did you guys collect all the coins in the remake? How hard was it for you?
Did you discover any new places you wouldn't have checked out otherwise?

Attached: handsome turkey.png (284x266, 46.2K)

I think we'll enjoy ourselves a lot more without you around, user.

>we

Sound mixing in general is just off, like the music and voices are too quiet so there's less impact and the entire game seems to be missing the echo of the original which was also present in Ueda's other games. The remake just sounds sterile.

OP is asking which is the best way to play it you retard

Attached: 1513031768430.png (2084x844, 1.11M)

>art and asset production for games in recent years has been dramatically systemized,
this
everything looks like its had no real effort or care put into it

they removed things like colossus self shadowing, it's as low effort as it comes.

Attached: no self shadowing.png (1904x464, 459.35K)

you are just low iq

The remaster end up looking really good.

t someone who played the PS2 europe version

The PS4 plays and looks just fine. But to me, emulating the PS2 version seems to be the best option.

ps2 is still the way to go though, some layers were removed in the remaster.

Attached: nice lightinb ro.jpg (1222x631, 88.66K)

I apreciate the based autist who bifocates ps4 fags

the spyro and crash remakes are the same
but the unwashed masses seem to be fine with it
makes me feel i could make a game though, it people are so stupid

Who were in charge of the remaster btw?

I played it on PS2, PS3 and PS4. The remake is a remake, so if you want to experience the original game play it on PS3, personally I think it's better than the PS2 version.

bluepoint, they did the remake too.

Attached: Argus.jpg (7517x2437, 2.32M)

>Normies are braindead
In other news, fire burns stuff. Funnily enough there's some autist that made/was making a better looking remake of Spyro on its own.

LMAO. What a way to drop the ball

Haven't played SotC personally. Do you get to go to those waterfalls or are they just scenery as you swerve around them and stick to the plains?

>Funnily enough there's some autist that made/was making a better looking remake of Spyro on its own.
Got a link? I'd be curious to see that.

Is The Last Guardian any fun? I tried Ico and it was a really unfun slog between the babysitting, the terrible combat that takes a million years, and the fact that your character randomly slows down for some reason. I'd rather put up with a dumb animal that is programmed to not listen to you than the character just stutter-walking for no reason causing me to bunny hop everywhere.

the stutter walking is because your analog isn't set up properly or broken

Attached: head animation.webm (802x314, 2.14M)

Not the original ps2 version. It's redundant with the HD port on PS3.
Everyone saying a certain version is "soulless" needs to die. That doesn't mean anything.
>dodge offset is the main mechanic in bayonetta not witch time
Dodge offset is the main and most important mechanic though.

Weird, my controller/controls work perfectly on every other game I've tried. There was no consistency to it and I just assumed it was some dumb IMMERSION thing. I was playing in emulator though.

Playing on a ps2 is still the best. The remake looks nice but ps2 still plays the best. The ps3 port has really fucked up physics.

literally soul vs soulless

How dare you bring up those games in this thread. Spyro and Crash were always exceedingly ugly games, most PS1 games were ugly, even for their time, and these were no different. The remasters are straight upgrades across the board, only autists would claim otherwise.

ps3 port has messed up physics which make some fights very annoying

and soulless does have meaning. You are just saying it doesn't because you have heard other say it doesn't

Easily found on YT apparently IIRC: youtube.com/watch?v=WygX9LyPYFM

nice bait

i dont think i would say that is better

yeah you have to mess with deadzones to get it working right

Attached: ferns.jpg (1822x504, 116.18K)

Eeh, it looks more faithful I guess but it's pretty janky. Still sorta impressive for the work of one guy.

does your handler know you're on the internet?
