To be honest, Noc looks better and more realistic than Cloud. I think it's the skin textures and the way the engine renders the characters. SE's in house engine looks much better than Unreal 4. Why aren't they using it?

Isn't luminous engine a fucking nightmare to work with which is part of the reason why it took fucking forever to make FFXV and why KH3 development was scrapped and switched to UE4.
UE4 seems to just be faster to work with than that nightmare of an engine by the evidence of 2 big titles like FF7R and KH3.
Luminous has more graphical potential, but is a nightmare in every other department. Even the final patch of FFXV is janky as shit and makes most platforms sweat for no reason.
The problem with using their own engine is that they keep ditching it after every game and having to start from scratch.
Luminous was buggy as fuck and FF7R looks better. You have to cherry pick to make FFXV look even remotely decent.
One of the reasons might be the fact that realism isn't always better in all metrics, or that realism isn't always intended. For example, I'd rather look at a game with FFVII's art style than FFXV's.
Sure, the engine may be difficult to work with, but the lighting model itself is engine-independent. You can port/re-implement it in another engine. It's possible as long as you have a per-pixel function with generally used mesh/world information available.
You have no idea what you're talking about.
VIIR is going for more of a cartoon look than XV. The old lighting wouldn't work.
>more realistic
that's an inherently negative thing.
FF7R has a much better art style.
UE4 has serious transparency problems so they render the hair using dithering and hope the temporal antialiasing will fix it. I hate it.
I dunno if FF15 has the same issue but I remember older Final Fantasy games (FF13 in particular) having great hair because they rendered it with proper translucency.
XV does it too. Not just on hair either, look at this mod.
no it has no transparency problems idiots.
if they would have used textured transparency it would look fine.
it's an inherent flaw of the PS4. it can't handle NVIDA hair fx so they have to turn the effect quality down and that's what creates the dithering because of the way the effect works. the higher you set the effect quality the more it goes away.
the effect is not even compatible with normal anti-aliasing.
Define realism and does it even apply to any of those fujoshi fantasy faces.
You're spouting nonsense. UE4 has transparency issues because they use a deferred renderer and all the transparent objects are done in a separate forward rendering pass. It would have had sorting issues and no shadows if they had used textured transparency.
This, they're using the old checkboard technique saturn used which worked fine on crts and actually made things look really nice. Not the same these days. Been around since dx10
Yeah, I was extending my point about realism not being always better in all metrics. One can infer that they didn't port the lighting from FFXV because that specific art style or lighting model isn't intended. Of course, the reason could be anything. I'm just mentioning that it's one of the things that points to FFVIIR's lighting being simplistic by intention rather than unintentionally "worse" while going for realism.
Pretty sure the PS4 uses an AMD GPU. Why would they implement Nvidia's Hair FX? It can't be turned down, because you can't even use it in the first place. It's not even compatible. They're probably using transparency maps, or something else, but definitely not Nvidia's Hair FX.
FFXV's characters were designed with a realistic artstyle in mind, VII's were not.
If you bring up advent children your mother will die in her sleep.
Yeah i think hair on XV looks better while 7R has plastic cosplay hair.
you have no clue about the engine or how to use alpha values you fucking idiot.
the dithering is due to the shitty effect they use. it does the same thing with XV in their luminous engine.
>SE's in house engine looks much better than Unreal 4. Why aren't they using it?
the luminous engine has performance stability issues, it takes a powerful PC to make FF15 run nice at a good resolution, also it was supposedly not pleasant to work with
barry... i'm sorry, but cloud won.
Advent Children isn't realistic though.
they should just use unity. its much easier to work with than unreal
The Unity version of 7R would be hilarious. That engine is so bad.
>Why aren't they using it?
It's apparently a bitch to work with.
Why else would SE move KH3 away from it MID DEVELOPMENT to go to Unreal?
nu-devs learn how to use unreal in school and those are the people making modern games generally.
this is why these games look worse than they should, the quality compared to older games just isn't there.
Nvidia's Hair FX is an approach to rendering hair based on Nvidias algorithms. it can be adapted for any graphics card. you don't need an Nvidia card to run it.
My favorite is the blackface glitch
Right looks better. Left's hair is a separate model awkwardly glued to his head.
hair on the left looks like plastic.
I was hoping xv-kun would start sperging but I guess he's not here, and no one is posting any FF7 images.
shit thread
> I think it's the skin textures and the way the engine renders the characters.
It's more that UE4 uses Lambert shading for the diffuse component while Luminous probably uses Burley or something more modern. That's why in UE4, the lighting falloff at angles facing away from the light source is often too steep.
Good point.
I liked FFXV. The overworld, graphics and combat were enjoyable. The boys deserved a better campaign.
both look way too Asian
I've been saying this since day one and you people didn't listen.
I like both games though.
There's nothing in FF7R that looks as good as Altissia.
youtu.be
I want both of them to sit on my dick
laughed audibly
HairWorks isn't being used by FF7 you twat, it wouldn't even work for those ridiculous hairstyles apart from maybe Tifa.
>consoles
Yikes bro
Not even base PS4 looks that bad. Probably a bait webm made on the PC version.
>boat is gigantic compared to the city
wtf?
They both look like uncanny valley anime characters to me.
It's a small yacht, characters for scale in this picture.
Can't you faggots shut the fuck up about your Internet boyfriend, for fuck's sake. We're actually having a discussion on Yas Forums of all places and you, inbred retards, insist on smelling farts. I'm fucking sick of niggers like you parading literal who shitposters every thread.
Fuck off and die.
He has a chin like a Chinese girl using Meitu.
What the fuck is going on with Gladio's elbows?
Calm down spergy I wasn't even complaining about him. This thread is going nowhere is the point I was making.
Why do they look so ugly?
>This thread is going nowhere is the point I was making.
That clearly a fucking lie though. Anyone can read your previous post. Now shut your fucking mouth before I put you in your place again, "spergy".
That's exactly what I said, spergy.
Cloud is relentlessly handsome. Noctis is relentlessly handsome.
Call me spergy again, retard. It totally doesn't make you look like you're compensating for being called out.
FFXV had some hilarious weirdness
The sound/voices in that game all sounded like they were recorded in a locker room.
Something about the animation in that game made me feel like I was waking around in a huge tech demo.
spergy
Are you this obedient to your Internet boyfriend too? You might get in trouble, young man.
My favorite was when I walked into the market in Lestallum, and the entire thing was unloaded except for the NPCs. I could walk around the empty courtyard as the game slowly caught up to me.
