Can Yas Forums have a non-autistic discussion about XV?
Pros: >stylish visuals >Yoko tracks are masterpieces as usual >the voice acting is good in spite of the dialogue >the road trip vibe is pretty comfy >the ending tugs at your heartstrings, again, in spite of the story
In the end a pretty good game And a good Final Fantasy game
Pro
>the brotherhood friendship with the 4 protagonists, Noctis, Ignis, Gladio and Prompto >the action jrpg gameplay is actually pretty fun to play >the Lore is epic >the sublime OST >the great graphics >the charismatic main villain, Ardyn >the beautiful dungeons >the chocobo's >the Astral's Summons design >the monsters design >the road trip vibe >the simple but good story >the powerful and great ending
Cons.
>the interesting but dangerous use and control of the magics >the too restrict "use" of the Summon >the excessive fast forward during the second half of the game >the exaggerated large use of the multimedia narrations, even for demo, novel and trailer's.
Jason Hill
I hate Tabata
Lincoln Moore
>Brotherhood It honestly didn't come through for me. It was all kinda ruined when, after the timeskip, it's revealed they rarely hung out. The only connection between the other four is Noct. Otherwise, they could care less about each other. >epic lore But poorly delivered. >beautiful dungeons This is objectively false. >Chocobos Yeah, it's probably the best riding of the series. >gameplay fun Also objectively false, although my handups mostly stem from the fact that Warp Strikes are too overpowered. >Just don't use it. It's the easiest way to farm AP. Tying such a valuable resource to it was a mistake.
Why? Poor guy was just doing his best to string together a Frankenstein project that was just handed to him.
Feels more like a weird single player MMORPG where you're given zones and a bunch of fetch quests from NPCs inside those zones. It is growing on me but it's just not a good game. Also what's up with the magic? It's just grenades now and 3 elements. Garbage.
Who the fuck though that J-pop/rock looks for the main cast was a good idea? How can you go from Cloud, Cecil, WoL to this shit? Even the clothes are lame.
As always, it all comes down to the execution. Did this game have the potential to be great? Of course, but game development can be a bitch, and there's stuff that can't be fixed no matter how you try. To reach that potential XV would have to be remade from the ground.
Jose Stewart
Thank god for the DLC. I wish the other guys got cool outfits, though.
yeah my problem with the bromance aspect is that it feels one sided, and that the bros dont have actual arcs in the base game. the dlc episodes should have been implemented as part of the game, and not been cut out
banter and a kino end scene isnt enough
Carter Jones
The magic sistem is basically divided into two sections. The magic grandes. Products of alchemy of the basic 3 elements + an object. This can create multiple Multicast. Examples: Quadcast Fireblizzaga And if you add different elements you can add even alterate status, like poison status, sleep status, or even heal for heal the party. However, it's really dangerous use it, especially in little space, because they can hurt the party. And the reaction of the magic react to the environment. And if you cast Tricast Tandaza into a swap or into a water area, the thunder magic electricity all the water, and will going to damage the party in that area. It's interesting but dangerous.
The second is the Ring of Lucis. With 3 magics. Sancta, Alter and Death. Easy to use and with incredible effects
Liam Morales
It doesn't help that it isn't until the final chapter(s) that Noct expresses any gratitude towards them. I remember there was one hilariously out of place line where Noct tells Gladdy he's grateful to his dad and Gladio doesn't seem phased at all. The death of his dad and likely the rest of his family is glossed over.
The crafting system is nice but, like with XV's other systems, it's never required that you master it or even learn it. Tying stats to weapons also means you're at a disadvantage if you waste a slot on magic ammo.
I actually really like the chapter where the party fractures, I feel like if every part of the game had as much interaction but on a more positive note the game would have been great
Ayden Lopez
>empty open world with copy and paste gas station >generic mmo fetch/kill quests >hold O to win combat with unlimited elixir >worst world of ruin in all of FF >worst romance in all FF >all the dlc character episode should already be in the game fuck tabata
Hunter Walker
of all the things they focused on, it was jared's death. like what the fuck. iris doesnt give a shit about her dad, but does about her butler. even in the end, the only focused on story development from the timeskip beside the main plot is talcott getting closure. why?
Lincoln Sanders
A "certain someone" has forever poisoned the well when it comes to discussing XV.
Eli Martin
I played for the first time only after Royal Edition came out, from the moment I could equip the infinite warp strike DLC weapon I never took it off and basically skipped the entire games combat system. Everything after the boatride was dogshit. All the DLC was dogshit. Genuinely the best part of the game was the open world gay camping trip.
Joseph Long
It's such atrocious story-telling and indefensible, made only worse by how likable Noct is after the timeskip and how amicable he is with the bros. I wish we could keep mature Noct during the road trip sections.
Give Comrades a try if you didn't. Warp Striking isn't as OP, and the combat is actually decent.
Good >excellent soundtrack >roadtrip is certainly an unique idea for a game >I actually ended up liking the party dynamic despite having a very strong initial dislike about all of the main characters designs >Ardyn is one of best villains in the series, if not the best
Bad >combat is garbage and falls apart especially in supposedly hard extra bosses, becoming a retarded game of Noctis soloing and contantly rezzing through items >hahaha what the fuck is up with the magic, so useless >plot pacing sucks so hard - first half, the fall of Insomnia is rushed so hard, then nothing that important happens for the entirety of the open world part, then the end rushes through so hard that you are just left wondering what the fuck happened >some parts of the plot exist outside the game itself >sidequests are MMO-tier >side characters are mostly just introduced once and then just become sidequest automats - like the lady professor, paparazzi guy, and the fat photographer, the game initially makes you think that they’re supposed to matter something but NOPE
I want to love it, but it is so painfully obvious that they had to rush to finish the game, you can see where their resources just ran out.
Levi Cruz
Cons >no bro ending where engage in completely heterosexual acts with the guys
Jaxson Green
>I want to love it, but it is so painfully obvious that they had to rush to finish the game, you can see where their resources just ran out. It's probably why the extra chapters were made DLC, to get as much $$$ as possible before the game died out.
Adrian Harris
>we never got timeskip iris, not even concept art >doesnt even appear in that cancelled dlc novelization fuck
Cameron Ward
>the ending tugs at your heartstrings i literally didn't feel a single thing. i couldn't believe that i spent like 60 hours with these characters and didn't learn anything about them at all. they have some alright interactions and that's it. absolutely spectacular case example of how not to write your cast.
Gabriel Martinez
>Can Yas Forums have a non-autistic discussion about XV?
depends if Barry shitposts or not
>from the moment I could equip the infinite warp strike DLC weapon I never took it off and basically skipped the entire games combat system. don't worry, you missed nothing.
Benjamin Gutierrez
>combat is garbage and falls apart especially in supposedly hard extra bosses, becoming a retarded game of Noctis soloing and contantly rezzing through items I'm reminded of the Naglfar. For no explicable reason a level 120 superboss is tied to a side quest of some dude in an alley asking you to go kill nasty non-Hunt monsters so he can craft superweapons, like they tacked it on to put the weapons SOMEWHERE in the game. And the fucker one-shots any party not well over 7k HP and uses attacks you can't phase through and come back at your ass to boot, requiring no lock on and dodge roll spam. It's so obnoxiously one-sided that you have no choice but to chug a metric ton of potions and phoenix downs over and over because the game just lets you shrug off party-wiping tiers of bullshit as an intentional design crutch. The same thing happens in Costlemark Tower, where all of the combat system's flaws come to bare and you're surrounded by enemies that can stunlock you while lightning bombs suicide for party kills - and you can just chug chug chug and ignore all consequences by bruteforcing it, because by the whole "four Red Giants, two Nagas, and twenty flans" debacle you have no choice but to do that. You cannot avoid damage and you cannot kill everything fast enough to prevent it.
Leo Hill
I just played it for the first time this week and literally finished it 5 minutes ago. I paid 17 dollars and got my money’s worth. That’s all I want from a video game. It was fun and corny and sweet. Sometimes a slog. you kill a giant turtle, ride chocobos with some bros, do some crystal magic weapon shit, kill fiends, summon Shiva and Rhamu, watch your virginal perfect slizard get stabbed, get revenge on the nihilistic dude with a wicked sense of humor. You never give up hope and you bring sunshine back to a world of ruin. It’s like final fantasy but an action adventure game. 7 out of 10 moogles on my scale, glad I played.
Someone set out to make a modern Final Fantasy game, but instead of creating something with the massive scope and production value that that legacy calls for, they decided it was more important to deliver a "finished" product on a swift deadline than to take the time to make something truly memorable and boundary pushing.
What you're left with is just the skeleton of a Final Fantasy game, something that from the outside looks like a great game, but is empty on the inside. It's all a bunch of smoke and mirrors, padding, a husk. The parts that really are great just make it all the more disappointing that there's no substance to back it up.
Ian Hernandez
Actually Tabata he made the best work he can do, in just 3 years, after all. And in the end he created an actually really good game
Eli Morales
Does it have any of that FFVII-X feel to it? That's really all I'm after if I ever get this game.
Evan Phillips
I can't get over how fucking retarded the characters look with black clothes under the sun
Jaxson Moore
Is the steam version really broken? I hear it stutters more
For me yes. FFXV it's remind me a lot of the classic FF VII, FF IX, and FF VIII
Nathaniel Sanchez
no try dq11
Camden Williams
It's actually a great version of the game. Because it's the Windows Edition. (with 4K options settings)
Oliver Wright
Why did FFXV end up so mediocre anyway? I know FFXII went through a similar cycle of dev hell but it still turned out decent to great
Asher Stewart
I don't know about consoles but for some reason the DLC is way less optimized than the main game. I was getting ~40 FPS in Gladio's DLC when I was getting 60 in the main game with the same settings. The Prompto DLC ended up being the same way so I never even touched the Ignis one.
Owen Garcia
Probably not in the way you’re looking for, no. But if you are a fan of the series you’ll certainly be charmed by moments. It’s almost like being a capeshit comic book fan and not really liking the movies but sometimes you see a scene from a comic brought to life on the screen and rendered really lovingly and you’re glad it exists. That’s how I felt multiple times.
Cameron Gomez
Funnily enough, Naglfar was the one that I was thinking when I wrote the post you quoted. Not that I liked the combat even before that, but it really was the fight that showed me that you really can’t feature any actual proper superbosses or challenging fights in a game like that, the combat just lacks the depth that would allow for that in any sensible matter. All the ”superbosses” in the game show that they can’t induce proper difficulty in the game without making it ridiculously annoying for the reasons you described. Party is useless, the fight takes forever, you just gotta cheese it because there’s no way to fight it fairly.
Adamantoise is also an one remarkable specimen in shit design on itself, what a clunky, fucky chore of a fight it is.
Anthony Baker
It was Sonic 06 syndrome. Too ambitious and costly for its own good, marred by executive choices and a large shift in directional vision that overhauled the entire project until a nasty deadline slapped them upside the face. I'm surprised Tabata managed to get out what he could, considering the entire year between Episode Duscae and the release alone changed so many little things and a majority of the combat system mechanics, with hints of things changed up to the last minute and shit like the Kingsglaive footage bits being slapped into the day one patch because critics were complaining that the big shit happening off-screen resulted in the story losing all depth altogether at the starting line. And if that weren't bad enough, they then used random selective in-game polls you could only choose ONE THING from to try to decide what to work on, and ultimately did the bare minimum to improve the game even in the Royal Edition besides some extra story bits like Chapter 13's alternate shit.
Oliver Rogers
I wasn't a huge fan of Ardyn's at first because of the "muh insane" vibe. He's much more palatable in Japanese if only because the VA doesn't overdo it.
>hard bosses That's where the game really falls apart. Instantaneous one-shot attacks that are impossible to predict kill any flow the combat might have. Gladio's gameplay alleviates this somewhat.
I didn't feel bad about using the Magitek Exosuits for that shit. So dumb. Like I mentioned above, it's somewhat manageable with Gladio.
I, too, likely enjoyed it more because A) I got it on sale with B) all the DLC and QoL patches the game got over its lifetime.
Very well put.
There's a bunch of tweaks you can do to mitigate, the Special K mod, and putting it on an SSD.
This is a valid point. I assume that XV just had so much money poured into it that it was difficult to move stuff around. Making an extra cutscene or adding an Endore narration to fill in the gaps was easier and cheaper than what they would need to put into XV to make it feel complete.
Unfortunately, no. The game claims its for fans, but the only connection to past games is the old OSTs that are available.
Thanks, guys. Guess I'll be trying it once I'm done with REmake2
Remember trying DQ8 back when it was released and it just wasn't my cup of tea. Felt too rudimentary. Still, thanks for the recommendation, man
Dylan Morales
Actually every last entry of the Final Fantasy franchise is always going to attract highly criticisms. Even just because it is different. FF XII it was bad in the PS2 generation because it is basically an MMO single player offline game. With the most basic auto battle ever made for the PS2 era. (and the too much political plot)
This just for said that happened with each last entry
Carter Turner
>stylish visuals J-pop metrosexuals aren't stylish. >Yoko tracks are masterpieces as usual Not nearly her best work. >the voice acting is good in spite of the dialogue Yeah, I sure loved those Cup Noodles ads. >the road trip vibe is pretty comfy Comfy is a buzzword that means "nothing happens". Yeah, comfy as fuck to ride a self-driving car in this featureless map with nothing in it. >the ending tugs at your heartstrings, again, in spite of the story Nope. You need characters for that, and at the end of the game we have one sort of character getting married in the afterlife to a prop. What's emotional about that? You want a pro for this game? At least the devs eventually realised it was unsalvageable and scrapped the whole team, fired the incompetent director and moved on.
I like how after the random as fuck timeskip, everyone sees noctis again and they’re just like ‘hey wassup’.
Jordan Murphy
Because somehow everyone found some archives in a royal library under Insomnia that underlaid the entire plot off-screen for them or some dumb shit, wasn't it?
Brody Torres
>platforming dungeon in a non-platforming game >genji gloves are in her navel Nicely done Square, but that was easily the most difficult dungeon in the entire game. Oddly enough I really enjoyed it despite massive frustrations.
Eli Hill
The ending is one of the very few moments in gaming that's ever made me tear up
Jaxson Mitchell
>not nearly Chill with the hyperbole. Somnus alone is in the top 3 Yoko tracks. >Cup Noodles That shit was hilarious. Hammy product placement is the best kind. >comfy If you can't enjoy chill cruising with nice visuals and your favorite FF music playing, then I feel sorry for you. >need characters for that You have them. All you're lacking is empathy.
I hated it. Not only is it nothing like the rest of the game, I couldn't enjoy it knowing every checkpoint I progressed also locked me off from dozens of items in nooks I couldn't be arsed to check.
>15s ending >instead of gathering your friends together at lestallum you just see fucking talcott randomly dirving by and taking you to your friends >hey noct, your friends want to talk to you >nah, I'm gonna talk to them when I get to them cringed my dick off so many times during the last parts of 15 and the ending was the most rushed part of the fucking game
Jaxson Anderson
ito is better than tabata
and xii appears to have destroyed ito's soul anyway
Eli James
>the problem isn't the sub-standard product, it's YOU being unable to enjoy it regardless I'd call you a shill, but I don't think Square bothers with shilling this game anymore. You're just a fanboy, which is actually worse. You're not even being compensated to spout this shit.
John Moore
Yeah this fucking old dude and kid who you spend like 2 missions with supposedly get all this emotional weight. Like where the fuck was this when your whole country was destroyed
Ayden Lewis
later patches added in phone calls for cindy and iris, which is sad really
Cooper Smith
You didnt skip anything, you can effectively infinite warp strike even without mandatory dlc cheat weapons. You just have to hold triangle to instantly recharge your mana every once in a while.
Colton Garcia
>ardyn is good Whats good about him exactly?
Tyler Taylor
Doesn't matter how much I criticize the game; I make one point in its favor and I'm a shill. Alright, dude. I just made the logical assumption that you're a cynical bastard that doesn't get emotional about anything in media.
remember how the cancelled DLC was supposed to be about luna getting resurrected and being given the same demon succ powers as ardyn, and her using that to heal ifrit, and then she teams up with noctis and ardyn to kill bahamut
and how an important new character to be introduced as a little girl in aranea's dlc was the black god-hating granddaughter of iedolas, the emperor of niflheim, who was raised by that asshole loqi, who actually saves her and aranea in a heroic sacrifice, and her name is solara, completing the naming scheme?
It's honestly bothersome. The chapters leading to 13 needed more meat rather than the game jumping to train rides and a super linear finale, even if we're not talking making the second continent playable obviously. Tenebrae even showed in the trailers earlier that fucking year as if it was going to be explorable in some fashion or another. The second half of the game's torching and train rush are like metaphors for how half-assed everything became. And instead all they did was use the Royal Edition to expand Insomnia as a final dungeon with some extra sidequests and bits of story content, which kind of detract from the laser focus the finale used to have, while patching in a method of skipping 90% of Chapter 13 by condensing it into a half hour alternate plot instead of a 4 hour slog.
Joseph Powell
not profitable enough i guess, they released episode ardyn and then cancelled the rest of the episodes. they released the concept art and plot outline in novel. i really did want to see episode aranea
tabata left afterwards
Isaiah Harris
That doesnt explain the reaction of his ‘bros’. Their decade long reunion is basically just ‘hey long time no see’
Caleb Allen
What backstory? I dont remember any backstory other than his ‘lol im an ancient lucian’ right before you kill him
Jose Fisher
Do you have close male friends that you see frequently? Have you ever been separated for long periods of time? What was their reaction like when you reunited? If it’s doesn't look like that in some fashion then you may be a homosex.
Liam Adams
>stylish visuals >Yoko tracks are masterpieces as usual >the voice acting is good in spite of the dialogue >the road trip vibe is pretty comfy >the ending tugs at your heartstrings, again, in spite of the story Literally none of these are true.
