They only "remade" it because it didn't run properly on the arcade hardware. Vanilla 2 is the superior version otherwise.

Most people prefer X, but play both. X is a 2.5, essentially a revised version with different enemy placement and some different backgrounds. X also runs better, since it was made with a better engine that prevented the slowdown that 2 has.

Play both 2&X. Play 3-6, then skip 7 and play XX instead. Unlike 2&X's relationship, XX is just plain better than 7. After that (or in the middle if you want a change of pace), emulate 1st & 2nd Mission on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. You could emulate MS Advance as well if you'd like.

Didn't that have bad input lag/controls, or was that just Anthology on Wii? Either way the Arcade Archives on Switch run great except for 1 for some reason and 3 has a standalone PS4 port for some reason (same with XX).

You should play both, 2, then X, and then only play X after that since it is superior, but it's interesting to see the differences.

This was set up by a fan. I only played thoroughly MS6 on this, but I tested some good old MS4 and was fine. I still prefer to emulate because I can set up CRT lines.

Metal Slug 3 was my first 1cc ever. It was great going from "this is impossible" to "I can actually do this"
I would recommend 1ccing Metal slug 1-3
4 and 5 are stupid.
6 is doable! and 7 is boring to look at...

X is literally intended for people who have already played through 2. A lot of the changes also don't have real value without contrast to 2.
