it bears a strong resemblance to the afterlife

>this blank sheet of paper isn't good, here's why
>this blank sheet of paper is great, here's why

nothing makes it's good, it depends on whether the player can enjoy it. initially people were threatened by the hunger system for ruining this, even if they didn't realize and/or couldn't articuate the reason why, but managing the hunger bar is such a non issue that this percieved threat wore off.

Easy to understand. Comfy music. Simple with unlimited possibilities.

When I was a kid about 20 years ago we had a computer program where you could learn things like the cube and you had to build a pyramid with like 10 cubes. There was also a free building mode. It only had yellow blocks and I remember spending time a school building stuff.

I always remembered that and how that worked. Which was addicting same with lego.

It actually is just a toy without creating a mess and your own imagination can be used like how a child plays. But in this you can make your things a reality. This is why it’s succesfull

Freedom to do anything you want, great ambient soundtrack for some of that confy feel

Literally everything in the game world is material, thats what makes it so compelling.

Lego blocks.

Simple, infinite possibilities, cheap virtual lego, surprisingly great atmosphere and soundtrack. Still lots of unrealized potential in the base game that can be fixed with mods. The appeal of this game is not surprising, but its very surprising that only one game managed to come close since and that is Terraria. Both are some of the greatest games ever made and fill each other nicely. Hytale might be another game that builds upon it, but I am little skeptical.

Why do new version have shit world gen?In 1.7 you could see tall mountains and shit in new versions all mountains are small

Simple to understand. infinite complexity

The game is built on natural concepts that make anyone able to understand what to do. You already know that you need shelter, food and light, and that you want to build, fight, and survive.
The game emphasizes this simplicity in all aspects. The game's graphics are in the cube-based, low quality style to make it accessible to all systems and people. The easily manipulated landscape in an environment with little physics makes it easy to create your vision of a perfect world. The mobs populating your world were, until recently, farm animals or monsters with basic AI. The soundtrack is mostly piano music, and combines the feelings of isolation with hopefulness. The decision to make it only occasionally play heightens the times it does.
You don't need to be told anything about Minecraft. If you want to build a roller coaster, a castle, a manor or a statue you'll do it. It's the ultimate sandbox.

>why do i like this?
Autism.

I don't want to do anything in Minecraft other than kill mobs and wage war. Building seems like a waste of time to me.

creators of the most popular games are Yas Forums posters, check it for yourself, that is the secret

fuck nu Minecraft. my nephew has it for his switch and I tried playing it and couldn't understand why I couldn't make a crafting table with the wood I got from a tree until I realized that at some point in this game's retarded development cycle, they decided it was a good idea to make you convert the wood you get from trees into a different kind of wood that you can craft with, with a 1:1 input/output, just to make it look like there's more content

fuck that

mods

for me it was the powder game
dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/
obviously click links at own risk

using your creativity to build something is the purest joy man can experience

It has been that way for a ridiculously long time user

Do you mean wooden planks? Because those have been in the game for ages and are converted at a 1:4 ratio.

mfw theres a fucking zun tsu war guide on the game but no servers worth ever playing on and no faction wars arma 3 scale style

Why did Notch go apeshit on twitter?

last time I plated was somewhere around the time they added Enderman

sold his only fluke success for useless digital money

be nice

he does not care anymore. you would do the same thing if you had more than enough money and no responsibilities

Planks have been in for longer than endermen

Remember when you could play Minecraft in a browser? Good times

all I know is that before you used to be able to just take the wood straight from a tree and use four of those to make a crafting table. Now apparently you have to turn the tree wood into something else before being able to make a crafting table with it

I still wish I could create a finite world like in indev before infdev-alpha. Fuck Notch, the closest I can get now are those sky island maps.

>you used to be able to just take the wood straight from a tree and use four of those to make a crafting table
That was never a thing. You always had to use planks.

You might have been playing with mods or some shit because that was literally never a thing

Just find yourself a small island and restrict yourself to that.
You an also set up world borders.
minecraft.gamepedia.com/World_border

This was literally never a thing and you're likely confusing your memories

It kinda lost it's charm for me when they added in a million things and xp, it went from comfy autism lego simulator to an adventure game with blocks. Fortunately, you can play the old versions through the (java build) launcher, so just do that if you don't like all the new stuff.

That's never how it worked user, ever
Much less when you got the game
It was always "punch tree, get wood, make planks, make crafting table"

Levels are irrelevant outside some enchanting, and the new blocks are great for building autism, redstone and otherwise. Farms are the focus of new minecraft and they're honestly kinda fun.

This has gotta be some expertly crafted bait, unless you're actually losing your mind

Wow you're so smart!!!

Logs to planks isn't pointless bloat because of storage space. What you're describing is a change that occurred in 2010 before even doors existed.

They changed the world gen, really. I've found one entire seed on large biomes that I actually liked in totality since then

this is joe biden tier confusion

What was the deal with that site not being closed down for so long? They had a personal deal with Notch or something for advertising/educational use?

Someone brought that back
classicube.net/

>first mainstream voxel game
>made crafting mainstream as well
>top tier music and atmosphere
>comfy exploration and building
>added challenge of monsters in dungeons and outside at night
But then they had to ruin it by adding hunger system.

Before, it was raw simplicity and genuinely interesting community.
Now that updates are slow enough that you really have time to digest each of them, the appeal is in bending the world to your will and making it serve your whims.
virtually every resource is farmed, outside of sand, gravel, and dirt. Hell, even diamonds (or at least diamond tools and armor) can be gotten from villagers. The only high-value resources you need to look for are stuff like hearts of the sea, sponges, netherite, shulker boxes, and elytra.
And making all those farms rewards you with the ability to make ridiculous, unnecessary shit.
Minecraft's endgame is genuinely fun. Not many sandbox style games can say that.

Minecraft unironically taps into the same feeling as rainworld but palatable for normalfags change my mind.

Fuck you for making me so nervous

Simplicity and openness like that other user said. They keep bloating the game with new shit that's way lower quality than everything else.

Windows 10 won't let me play it.

hungroids are still unable to handle such a simple mechanic to this day

Explain what you mean, because I don't understand where you're getting this idea

no lol I'm gonna go watch porn anime instead.

What are you talking about? I'm talking about when you could play Minecraft on minecraft.net provided you had purchased the game, or you could play classic

Tried using a different browser?
