There's a reason melee is still appreciated all this time later, but Sm4sh was dropped as soon as ultimate came along, and ultimate will be dropped as soon as the next one comes out, despite them being better games

Ultimate has better graphics, more music, more characters and is a content king in terms of things to do (minus the shitty "story" mode, which is strictly worse than brawls.)
Melee is still however the better game because it's gameplay is so solid. The problem with Ultimate is that the game is nowehre near as tight as melee. Movement feels more restricted. Combo paths are far less satisfying to pull off. Neutral is slower than melee, and has worse "resolutions" leading into pressure. It's just not as deep of a game and it shows.

Yeah people dont understand skill ceiling and skill floor is what makes and breaks. Smashfags have a problem overrating everything and saying things are harder than they really are. Every smash game has a low skill floor, and how much each one has to master is the real difference.
From how it's written it's safe to assume that it was around the time during Brawl's release which was for the Wii that was made to be more accessible as a whole and the main controller for the Wii was the wii remote and nunchuk. So if I had to guess he designed Brawl around those things in mind and came to the conclusion that it wouldn't fit to have the next smash game be an evolution of Melee or something like that. Not saying I agree with the direction but I can't ever imagine playing Melee on a standard wii remote. It's like when you play Mario Kart 8 with friends and you have one pro controller and the others are stuck with joycons. It's fucking terrible and the faster paced a game is the more awful the experience is for those stuck with those shitty controllers, even casually. And the worst part is that smash has been stuck with this since the wii with smash 4 even being designed around the 3ds as well.

The problem is that this philosophy has since stuck and he has no intentions of ever letting it go. People who say ultimate is like melee are the same people who said 4 is more like melee. Ult is very fast, but it plays nothing like melee user. It is the closest game since brawl to melee, but just literal speed is not what the problem is.
There's very little hitstun because hitstun canceling still exists because they wanted people to escape from everything as quickly as possible as they said, the game still have a heavy defense focus like 4 where you get rewarded for defensive options more than anything without options to play against it. Ult is very basic, characters lack hitbox variety and angle variety, DI is still very restricted, SDI is still hurting after its nerfs to uselessness from 4, returning to stage is still overly safe, pretty much every mechanic has been removed in ult; shield dropping, edge canceling, proper dashing, wiggle from tumble, pivots, etc all of this is gone and more I can go on, but Ult just being fast doesn't really mean anything, the game is really basic. I know I wont get a real response to this but I just thought I'd shed the light on a few things. Smash has way too much potential as a concept to simply be relegated to what ult is, where the size of the roster is more important than anything with the most bare bones gameplay.

Not true. Armada has flat out stated that one of his biggest grievances is how safe moves are on shield and whiff punishing is thus too weak.
This, people stop at the graphics but the game unironically feels better to play than Melee and Ultimate. The characters are all very different and well balanced, which can't really be said for Melee.
Nintendo in general has shifted focus to be even more family geared since the Wii days. If smash ever wants to be faster oriented then I think what's holding it back is having to design the games around multiple controllers. Playing Brawl with the wii remote wasn't the greatest thing but it's doable. Playing Ultimate with a single joycon? That's probably the most uncomfortable way to play any smash game, and the worst part is that those are the main controllers for the switch with the pro controller being the alternative one so people are more likely to have multiple joycons as opposed to multiple procontrollers. Maybe if the next nintendo console stops using shitty controllers as the main ones then the next smash games can be designed solely around a controller that's like the pro or gamecube controller.
I mean that's true too. But that's not limited to aggression or defensive play. That's the problem. The low endlag and landing lag is better used when used to play keep away and stay as safe as possible with little commitment. And there's no proper counter play to it. Means characters like palu, wolf etc can just fade back over and over with low landing lag aerials and keep moving forever will little chance to punish.

It doesn't affect the kill percentage nearly as much as brawl did you retard. In fact it's barely even a factor at any level of play. Hit stun cancel literally removed any sense of combo ability in brawl for you to say it still affects combos in ult is a flat out lie.

Edge cancels only exist on specials, and on certain specials only. Generally teleports.
Brawl has better combos than Ultimate as sad as that is though so I don't know what you're talking about
