At least RDR2 had production value. Dragon Age Inquisition was a total shitpile and it won GOTY in most places. Ditto Bioshock Infinite, The Walking Dead and the PS3 version of The Last of Us.

This is the question to ask those who say certain games are overrated. Exposes their shit taste very quickly. But RDR2 is still overrated.

Bioshock Infinite is my go to for an overrated game.
In pretty much every respect it was a step back from previous titles but was praised to the high heavens as if it was the second coming of Jesus Christ.

That alone after the first few hours of playing made me drop it. It's mechanics aren't really that interesting if you want to just blast through it. It's another fuck around game like GTA and it can accel at that, but it just feels dated gameplay wise. Visually it looks great and the audio is great too, but the character movement, gunplay and mechanics feel like a bad ps3 game still, and that alone makes it a 6/10 for me.

Fancy visuals and animations are one thing, but one thing I hate in video games most of all is when they waste my time. Slow forced movement, 1 strike, clunky movement/cover systems, 1 strike, mission types of "Go to X to listen to them talk for 5 minutes as you auto-pilot to the checkpoint to shoot the baddies," 1 strike. It's out.

Why do you come to a thread about overrated games and then start disagreeing with people opinions and saying they aren't facts? It's normal to voice opinions in conversations.

Yes and no. It isn't the second coming of Jesus and there are better games out there. I really enjoy the hunting and exploration though so I enjoyed it more than peopoe who didn't. I feel like it borders on being a niche game. It's a solid 8.

It's impressive from a technical stand point but nothing in its design or gameplay impressed me that much
Story was good but largely disconnected from anything in the gameplay that was meant to communicate the plot elements or themes.
I wish Rockstar would make a smaller open world where the story was far more reactive to the way the player decides to handle story beats

No becasue you can feel and see the quality when you play it. The games has unmistakably craftsmanship most devs can't pull off, it always feels alive. Like usual in most Rockstar games, it's when you're just out and about in the open world creating your own sandbox fun. Also, the NPC's don't get enough love. They aren't stagnant and they have a certain level to their radiant AI that most new games like FFVII Remake, Days Gone, Death Stranding, TW3 and really any number of new open world games completely fumble at. In those games the NPC's are just waiting for the player to interact with them before an event occurs. Random events/interactions with NPC's in Rockstar games can happen at any moment which can range from hilarious to frustrating depending on the scenario. However, the fact that level of randomness can happen is amazing, it makes the world all that more believable and the competition just that more cheap becasue they can't pull that off too.

The only area Rockstar needs to improve on is main mission design and allowing you to attack missions with more variety. I think they can pull it off with future games easy.

This is weird of me to say, but IMO, RDR2 is one of those games where it's an absolute blast to play in the first playthrough. But when you're all done with the story AND have thoroughly completed a lot or all of the side quests and extra stuff, there's not really much else left to keep you playing again.

The game is good on it's own right, but I honestly think that RDR1 is still better.

I agree. I usually revisit most rockstar games 3-4 years later after one long playthrough. Makes replaying easier. Despite people bitching about them being "outdated" I think GTAIV-RDR2 all hold up great in 2020.

I really enjoyed rdr2. Was a really nice change of pace with a good story and characters. Suffers from the GTA style shooting but that's about the only thing I didn't like about the game. Would've been better if they didn't throw money at you starting chapter 4 too
