Some dudes show up in a honda, employees usually just need their bags with hand tools, and maybe a cordless driver.
Subcontractors are responsible for doing everything required to do the job, so they will transport the materials and equipment to do so. It also depends on the trade.

Am an electrician working for a big company and I got a cheap van for myself doing work not for the company. Every tradesman has there own tools. Company's will only buy an apprentice some basic handtools when they first join but over the years your expected to buy yourself everything else that you need to get work done.
