i have a hard block against calculations and remembering all those symbols and rules, but goddamn when you get a summarized view designed for laymen it't like a world of it's own, and every source of material comfort, safety, and providence from the very beginning of stone age development is based within math on some level or another.
once it gets to the level of analyzing the manipulation of numbers themselves rather than physical materials and energy it goes absolutely off the rails.
i can only imagine how the world looks to someone who just intuitively loves math as a concept.

Just like seemingly “useless” theoretical particle physics was necessary to discover nuclear energy and weaponry, seemingly “useless” pure math comes to have unexpected applications to the real-world. You can’t know something will be totally useless without first researching it. Even imaginary numbers (which become negative numbers when multiplied by themselves) are necessary to use in some engineering problems. OP’s pic is pretty funny though, I’ll admit.

Many discoveries in physics were only possible because some mathematician decided to dive into a theory which does not seem to have any kind of real world application. Take Einstein's field equations for example which he was only able to deduce because of Riemann's approach to geometry which was very unconventional at the time.
