Nop, the comic is smugly making fun of how when people say "I want communism" from an iphone they get mocked. I had a classmate who was like that, would get the best and newest bike, newest iphone, etc. Yet he wanted communism.

I dunno if this people don't realize that if the state owns everything... There won't be several phone brands, and they won't be all good and unique and original, it will be like the bathing suits they usedin the URSS, why would the state spend money and effor on differet iphone brands when they also have to manage water, food, electricity, internet, etc.

It feels like this people are too focused on being smug and win arguments rather than actually explore their ideas and the consequences of those, specially since they want them to affect the entire world and not just them.

The full comic is a Motte and Bailey argument. You can't really argue against the panel you posted because that's the Motte. As citizens we should improve society, and most of us do that via participation you linda can't escape that reality. However, calling someone a hypocrite for bemoaning working conditions while knowingly and voluntary contributing to that system is not the same. If one company uses sweat shops and another one doesn't and you buy the product from the sweat shop company: that's on you.

The problem with modern capitalism is that consumer choice is subverted by the actions of companies. If you don't buy a new iphone, some other company will buy it and give it away for free as a promotion, or make their employees use it for their job. Your choice won't make a difference.

The reason it fails as a meme is because it deliberately, but transparently, omits the fact that the behaviour being criticised by the right is voluntary, while the analogy they are trying to make is involuntary.

The only way out is to claim that they have no control over their drive to mindlessly consume, hence both are involuntary, but this just results in them digging themselves into a deeper hole.

This mentality is actually a large part of why the left are such a joke today.
Behaving like this in the present can result in victories in the short term, as people who don't think will be swayed by arguments optimized for style over substance, giving a movement a surge in numbers and support.
The problem is that in the long term, it destroys the movement, as the people this strategy attracts are invariably the lowest common denominator, and these people will eventually become both the face and leadership of the movement.

Not really. Inherently we form societies. We are a social species, to the point where most early philosophers believed our function is to literally exist for eachother. We are egotistic in the sense that we don't care about or actively dislike the out-group.

One issue is that the time available to consumer ratio is imbalanced right now, with those working the most/earning the most having the least luxury time to monetise, while those with the least to invest (stay at home mothers, the homeless) have the most time available.
