Since protestants are textualists they read the old testament endorsing circumcision. The problem with that is that Jesus was against circumcision and the form of circumcision in the old testament was not as harsh as modern American/Jewish style circumcision. In the old testament, that style was removing just the very tip.
Modern American circumcision is only on the face religious, it is mostly the result of inter-generational trauma. Your father had it done to him, he wanted to believe his parents made the right decision so they did it to you. You will go through a long grieving process but like I said there is something you can do about it. Foreskin restoration can significantly restore what was lost.
