he is lying, he does it because he's lazy. If you want a minute, press 66 and then open it six seconds before you make less movements than if you were to press six and and then move your finger all the way to zero. It's the most efficient way to use a microwave. I consider myself an expert on this kinda thing becuase I eat so many pizza rolls and popcorns that have mastered the art of the microwave oven.
