This is the basic fallacy. Big cities like NYC, etc. are going to get hit. People will die. There's a natural level of separation in suburb/exurban locales that will slow the spread.
It's not the end of the world. It's basically the same as a bad flu season, and that doesn't even touch H1N1 and what it actually did insofar as dead and hospitalized.
