Best beans are soaked overnight then boiled with a whole onion chopped in half, couple garlic cloves, and some salt.

It's good to wash cheaper rice because it has a fuck ton of starch, and will be super sticky and just overall unpleasant if you don't do it. I only do it when I buy £0.45 /kg rice.
