I’ve read a decent amount on the subject. Not everything, but a few medical studies. It interests me, and it’s a pretty perfect case study of how culture can negatively impact science. The thing is, this idea, that men can become women and visa versa, fits in perfectly to certain narratives. It allows the people interested in doing so to virtue signal at a new level, to be the accepting hero of a new group of “helpless, mistreated people that most others reject”. They fight to normalize it, make it the new moral conflict, and eventually it is culturally accepted that the “good guys” support it. People doing scientific studies on the matter, in order to continue getting funding from progressive universities and to avoid being the subject of heated controversy, will hack their results to skew them the “right” way. The studies I have read that show transgender treatment as you describe in a positive light (granted, less than a half dozen, but still), the bad science can be seen. Bad premises, small sample sizes, logical leaps that don’t quite fit, etc.
I would also like to say: I am sorry. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to be at odds with something that is the foundation of most people’s identity.
