Neuroscience, sure. Psychology has been around for a while, though. One would think that the multitude and subtleties of complex, interdependent chemical and physical differences between men and women is not well understood either, and the medical practice of manipulating them is a lot younger and less developed (for lack of demand) than psychology.

Did you go into these psychologists wanting to “become a woman”, rather than wanting to figure out why you thought you wanted that? While they are generally professionals with useful training and experience for dissecting your own psyche, they are also people, and as subject to cultural influence as anyone. If you tell them what you want (in this case, to be transgender), and if it aligns with their sense of morality (which, in my opinion, erroneously points then to accept your assertion), a lot of of them will end up telling you what you want.

As far as that brain scan goes, i’ll consider it reasonable evidence when a double-blind trial with statistically significant sample sizes come around. A single comparison reeks of bad science and cherry picking.

I’ve read a decent amount on the subject. Not everything, but a few medical studies. It interests me, and it’s a pretty perfect case study of how culture can negatively impact science. The thing is, this idea, that men can become women and visa versa, fits in perfectly to certain narratives. It allows the people interested in doing so to virtue signal at a new level, to be the accepting hero of a new group of “helpless, mistreated people that most others reject”. They fight to normalize it, make it the new moral conflict, and eventually it is culturally accepted that the “good guys” support it. People doing scientific studies on the matter, in order to continue getting funding from progressive universities and to avoid being the subject of heated controversy, will hack their results to skew them the “right” way. The studies I have read that show transgender treatment as you describe in a positive light (granted, less than a half dozen, but still), the bad science can be seen. Bad premises, small sample sizes, logical leaps that don’t quite fit, etc.

I would also like to say: I am sorry. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to be at odds with something that is the foundation of most people’s identity.
