I don't think any anime has truly transcended the medium, but I feel that this was one of the few that showed the potential to do so. It just didn't follow through.

3? with Chronico, and not as much but the one where crazy guy died realizing he will forever be unloved was quite sad too, not sure which one that was.
The other ones are Ufo no Natsu and the final MiA episode. Though now thinking few scenes in TTGL and some oldass Hotori ova nobody else would like were good though. Not tearing up tier, but good. It's subjective, really, Clannad for example never worked for me because I cannot relate to family/kid stuff but then again dead friends or lost friendships usually hit rather hard.

I kinda liked Eizouken but I wish Yuasa would go back to his roots, his latest movies all bored me. Which doesn't mean they're bad, just that they didn't do it for me as his older stuff.
