I found it super boring basically from the get-go, personally. Same with Kemonozume, I think Yuasa's stuff is just too dry for me.

the soundtrack is elder-god tier, the animation was interestingly different than the norm, and the story started out great

kemonozume has a more straightforward plot and less randomness, and more satisfying conclusion imo

It was good up to this point, but then went downhill fast. The sub-End of Evangelion ending and the not at all well foreshadowed mother reveal killed it stone dead.

It felt foreign to me which is what I want when I watch fiction. I have a hard time feeling anything since shit isn't real so being thrown into an alien world with a character that is as lost as I am is exactly the thing I want. It's also one of the like three anime that actually made me tear up so it deverse a medal anyway.
